May 242006

Ram 2500 6-cyl Diesel

  • 74,000 miles
: the contact stated the driver side tire blew out and the driver side fender was damaged. After the incident, the ABS system, and emergency brake lights illuminated on the dash board. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer who determined the clock spring needed to be replaced. There is a NHTSA recall, #01V153000, regarding the airbags. The VIN was not included in the recall according to the manufacturer. There is now a problem with the anti-lock brake system. While traveling 60-65mph, the brakes were applied and all four tires locked resulting in tire smoke. The vehicle was driven to the service dealer where it is now being inspected. There were no warning indicators present at the time of the incident.

Ram 2500 4WD 8-cyl

The contact stated while driving at low speeds less than 10 mph, the ABS pump activated, causing difficulty in depressing the brake pedal. This occurred on dry road conditions and under normal braking. There were no warning indicators prior to the first incident. He took the vehicle to a nearby garage, who replaced the ABS sensor and the ABS modulator. The garage then took the vehicle to the dealership to have the codes put in for the ABS modulator. The vehicle had the same problem again. The manufacturer was contacted, and they told the contact to take the vehicle to the dealership. No repairs have been made. Updated 1/11/2006.

Total loss of steering and braking. Am in process of replacing power steering pump/brake vacuum pump (one unit) for the second time. At time of loss of steering and braking control was driving downhill with a full size camper on ice. Slid sideways and stopped in snowbank. Am afraid to drive vehicle after second incident. Know several drivers who have experienced same problem with 2001 Dodge Ram.

Ram 2500 4WD

The ABS goes off over minor bump such as the warning bumps approaching toll booths in Illinois. This is a problem slowing from highway speeds to a complete stop. The brakes lose pressure like near complete brake fade and one must apply excessive pressure to stop the truck. This could lead to rear end collisions. I have repeatedly complained to barrington Dodge and filed a complaint with Chrysler customer service. I would expect concern about customer safety after the Ford tire recalls and deaths. Thank you for your time.

Vehicle has been in 5-6 times for brakes. When applying brakes they grab/ release/ catch and lock up. Dealer knows there is a leak but can't find it. They have scheduled appointments for 2 dates, and haven't showed up. When applied, brakes will suddenly release, when the brakes do grab, they lock causing vehicle to skid, constant loss of fluid in the master cylinder. Replaced clockspring due to popping noise in steering wheel.
