This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Dodge dealer.
Please read my previous statement about the Malfunction Indicator Light. I can't retype it all now, but you should read it!
At the last attempt to fix (Visit number 10, and this time out of the 3/36,000 warranty), we have resigned ourselves to eating the cost of this problem. I have researched TSB's on this problem, which I understand to have happened to many people with the Cummins Diesel. Ours is the Hemi, but it runs terribly, gets awful gas mileage (worse than you'd expect), and can't get out of it's own way. I look forward to getting this fixed at my mechanic who knows what he is doing, and will not repeatedly charge me at $75 an hour to pretend he has fixed something (like would happen at a dealer). I will have a cost on the fixing of this problem as of tomorrow. My family's safety comes first. I can't mess around with dealers until someone gets hurt. I would rather pay the bill and make my family safe. I'm sure this is what Dodge counts on.... that you just go away.

We started with this problem under 10,000 miles, and within 7 months of buying this Ram 2500 HD. The Malfunction Indicator Light would come on and go off repeatedly. I took it to Sands Bros Dodge in Quakertown where we bought the truck. For two years we continued to take the truck in NINE TIMES, some times for days at a time to find a solution. They replaced all kinds of cheap stuff, reset the computer repeatedly, but they have NEVER fixed the problem. Upon the last time in, the dealership told us that even out of warranty, they would honor this problem since our record with them is so extensive. Obviously, they lied. Our "rap sheet" on the truck has been altered. There is only one recorded instance of this truck being in for this problem. I think we had it in for other issues totaling 18 times. I contacted Dodge before, and nothing was done to help us. Again, Dodge is doing nothing. After having the service guy shake the papers with the history of the truck in my face, calling me a LIAR as I stood there telling him that it had been in many times. They didn't count on me saving all my paperwork. Who's the liar? I tried to have Dodge intervene, but it seems they could care less. This light may be associated with the throttle control, which also malfuntions, and the gas gage that goes to empty when you have filled the tank. This truck has had many annoying problems, and you would think the dealer would at least attempt to fix a problem so OBVIOUSLY an ongoing issue. I am not typing this in nine times, but it did happen nine times under warranty. I have resolved to fix this at my local mechanic who knows a heck of a lot more about vehicles than the ASE certified incompetents that they have at the dealer. I do this at my expense as I am more concerned with the safety of myself and two kids who are in this truck every day. Another word about this dealer... I followed the instructions of dealing with lousy dealers by trying to go to the owner. After being rudely treated in the service dept, I was "disconnected" as I was on hold to leave a voice mail for the "owner". I called back and she connected me this time, but I never heard from Harold Sands. I don't think he really exists. If he does, he cares very little about his reputation as the owner of a dealership that hires rude people to treat their customers like the dirt on the bottom of the lemons they have sold. This truck is a lemon. The only reason we are not going to a lawyer is because that is time consuming and expensive, so I choose, instead, to let the world know how Sands Bros and Dodge have treated us. This was a $36,000 truck, and even if it was $10,000, I would expect to be treated with decency. I work for a manufacturer, and we are deeply upset and bend over backwards to make our customers happy even after one repair (which by the way, things rarely ever come in more than that because we know what we are doing!). Clearly these people are not of the same ideal. I don't think business ethics was ever a part of their training. I tell my story in hopes of sparing others from this treatment. Make your own decision. As for Dodge, I was all but sold on a Durango or Aspen, but I don't know now. Maybe Ford will treat us a little better? If I can't get them to honor their warranty, and I can't afford a high powered attorney to plead our case, I will simply tell the honest truth that has been our miserable experience, and tell it to every single person I can.
