Stock U joints are CRAP, CRAP, CRAP! When yours fail, and they will, DON'T take it to the dealer! They will charge you twice as much and install the same inferior product. I recommend either Spicer or XRF. Both of these brands have grease fittings on them so you can lubricate the joint with a simple grease gun. The stock ones don't have a grease fitting, naturally. I've talked to guys who use their Dodge 2500/3500 hard, oil field etc. and they only get 20,000 miles out of stock ball joints.
Yes I called Dodge and complained, they don't care. If your Dodge is past the standard 36,000 warranty they won't even talk to you. I won't be buying Dodge again, EVER.

in my opinion this should of been a safety recall, when i took my truck in for my NYS inspection it failed due to bad upper and lower ball joints and 4 bad u joints. I made an appointment with dodge to have the problem addressed and they came back with a song and dance that yes there is a problem well DUHH I didn't bring my truck in for my health. i then was told I would have to find my own way home my warranty does not cover a loaner car till the second day what a crock of $hit i arranged for a ride home a day later i was called and told that this repair is under my warranty but will cost me 400.00 due to the fact that the hubs are frozen on the truck this is my problem why? if dodge had built the truck with decent parts in the first place never would of had to go in no grease fittings why?? anyway i paid the money for the repair and now the u joint is going again I will never purchase another dodge product in my life paid 45,000.00 for crap

to replace front ball joints at 52000 mile is beyond ridiculous, This truck is only used on the highway, and is very seldom carrying a load.. I love the cummins engine, but It will be the last truck I buy from Dodge.

The ball joints were bad in 2008 and replaced - I replaced them with OEM ball joints and had to replace them again in 2011. I replaced them with aftermarket and they have been fine since.
