Ram 350 360

  • Automatic transmission
  • 233,000 miles

Recently started having this problem. With engine completely cold (50-65 or so degrees in Southern California) the engine starts just fine, runs for a few minutes (say 2-4 miles) then shuts off ONCE only. After less than 5 minutes it can be restarted and then runs for the rest of the day without further incident, never shutting off again.

Additional helpful info:

* Only happens when the engine is physically cold. If it has been sitting in the sun for a while and/or the engine is physically warm when started it does not happen.

* Seems to happen only at slow speeds or when slowing down.

* Happened once after idling about 10 minutes, drove maybe 500 feet (downhill) then stopped.

* Once happened on the freeway (slow speed) then restarted by itself within 5 seconds (i.e. the engine just started again without me doing anything and before I stopped)

But it usually won't start for a few minutes...
