The contact owns a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal went to the floorboard when depressed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership for a diagnostic test and the contact was informed that the braking system was functioning properly but the failures were causing by an electric component. The vehicle was at the dealership for repair at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 115,000.

The service brakes fail completely often. I believe that it's in the antilock system however when I take it for evaluation & repair the problem cannot be duplicated. This has caused numerous near collisions and I haven't found a way to repair it yet. The dealer says they cannot replace suspected parts issues without a recall being issued. The 1st failure occurred at about 19,000 miles and has happened approximately 14 times between then and 102,000 miles now.

On three different occasions the retaining nut for fifth-gear has failed. Dealer offered repair kit... contained new main shaft for tranny. Cost was $3600, Chrysler refuses to acknowledge defect in manufacturing of thread tapering. There is also no power brakes. ABS seems to not be working, relies on pressure from oil to brake. If pressed continuously, will go all the way to the floor. Wiring harness burned up after dealer work, frank shoupe of georgetown Kentucky refused to repair their mistake. Said it was my fault, then refused to keep speaking with me. Stated replacement was $2015, and would take a week;received one from junkyard in Montana, took three days, and $300.

When driving both of the side view mirrors cracked. Consumer notified the dealer about this issue in the past. However, the problem recurred. Vehicle needed repair on front brakes; however, it was declined by the consumer.

My husband ordered this truck in late 1997. We purchased it new and have had numerous problems with the vehicle. The biggest problem we have faced is the transmission. Mid-April 1998 the first problems occured with slippage, the transmission cooling lines were replaced, one month later the torque converter went and repairs were made. Now at 51,000 miles and very little driving for the last 2 yrs (since my husband has been sick with cancer) it has blown again. The front seals are leaking profusely. The rear window was leaking so badly at one point the entire ceiling inside was soaded. The ABS computer went wacky on us early on also. The seatbelt has been twisted since we purchased the vehicle and we have not successfully fixed it. The extended warranty we purchased has gone out of business. I will not likely buy another Dodge ever again. Mercedes takes the cake.
