Consumer inquiring about a possible recall for 1999 Dodge Ram clock spring. Recall campaign #01V153000. The consumer stated that recall no. 982 was changed to no longer include his vehicle
- Unknown, DC, USA
The consumer's vehicle was traveling 55 mph when another vehicle hit it head on. Upon impact, the airbags did not deploy. The driver sustained injuries, and was transported by her mother to a hospital. The vehicle was towed and totaled by the insurance.

A part on the air bag in steering wheel, which I believe is called the "clock spring", has been recalled on the 1998 Dodge Ram 3500, as well as, the 2001. I know this because I owned both of these vehicles an dhad the recalls performed while I owned them. I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 as well and it is making the same noise that the other two did, before recalls were performed, yet there is no such recall. I have also observed some other problems which I feel are related that will most likely cause a crash in the future. The cruise control speeds up after it is set every time going down a hill or when there is little or no resistance against the truck. The turn signal also blinks occasionally (whether cruise is set or not). The above recalls on the 1998 and 2001 trucks are no longer listed here in your data, although they were at one time. I feel the 1999 should be a recall, since the others made the same noise before they were repaired. The noise in reference is a spring being twisted or stretched sound. Ahem, "clock spring".

On April 12 I was involved in an accident in which I rearended a car in front of me. Approximate speed was 20 mph. There is extensive front end damage and the back window of the Blazer in front of us busted out, but neither the driver or passenger side airbags in my truck deployed.

This is the third airbag failure I have reported to this Agency. All of these vehicle's whose air bag failed were late model sport utility vehicles of pick up trucks. Each vehicle was involved in a right angle collision at speeds of 45+ mph. Each vehicle sustained severe contact damage to the entire front end. In each case the air bags did not deploy. I am employed as an accident reconstructionist for the scottsdale police department in scottsdale Arizona. Please feel free to contact me with any questions which you may have.
