The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign id number 07V555000 (power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:column shift) and immediately called the dealer. A technician stated that he would have to pay a diagnostic fee prior to the repair and the parts were unavailable. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 90,000.

: the contact stated while driving 55 mph on the highway, the vehicle hesitated and lost power without warning. It was maneuvered off the road and towed to the dealer, who determined the transmission needed to be replaced. Also, while driving various speeds, the driver seat moved. The dealer determined a bolt fractured and the track needed to be replaced.

Transmission was defective. Consumer picked up the vehicle from the dealership after they repaired it. While driving 65 mph consumer heard a loud clanking noise and the rpms shot up from 2000 to 7000 rpms. Consumer almost lost control of the vehicle. Consumer eventually pulled over to the side of the road. The transmission only had 1st and 2nd gears, and had to drive in second gear only.

Transmission in my vehicle had to be rebuilt. The mechanic stated 2nd gear was burnt out and the transmission was shot. Had to change torque converter and bands. The mechanic stated the holes in the trnasmission were to samll and would not let fluid flow freely and keep the transmission cool. Therefore the transmission had to be replaced. The fuel pump has also been replaced twice on this vehicle and it is only 3 years old.

When pulling fifth wheel trailer or going up a hill, transmission tried to find a gear or keep shifting back and forth until a gear was found. Also, engine will over rev. Contacted dealer who indicated to shift automatic vehicle like it was a standard. Consumer states the trailer is always pulled with the overdrive turned off and that the shifting problem is in any gear when the rpms drop, below 2000 rpms.
