I would like to report a problem with Goodyear tires. My vehicle is equipped with Goodyear Wrangler LT235/80R17 all terrain tires. My tire dealer indicates that these tires are less than 4 years old based on the manufacturers code date, yet all 6 tires have splits in the side wall due to "rotting" according to my tire dealer. Some of these splits are very deep, up to 1/2" wide and 4" long. I have never had this kind of problem with any other brand of tire. The vehicle is driven every day, and I care for the tires by maintaining proper inflation and doing regular rotations. If I'm not the only one having this problem this could become a serious situation, for had I not followed proper tire maintenance procedures on my truck, I would have never been aware of the impending tire failures, as the deep cracks were all located on the inside of the tire out of normal view.

I drive a 2003 Dodge 3500 drw and pull a 5th wheel once a month. Tires are Goodyear, Wrangler sra, size: LT235/80R17 load rate E. I noticed an open crack on the sidewall of my front left tire and took my truck into a Goodyear service center to have it checked out. They inspected it and said that all 6 tires should be replaced because of showing signs of cracking (on the sidewalls). To me this is an unsafe problem and I expected Goodyear to replace them. No, I have to purchase new tires (they are prorating the bad ones). The tires had to be found in two different states because they did not have them in stock. I asked the service person if they see this a lot. His answer was he has seen it before. I contacted Goodyear consumer relations and got the same answer. I checked the internet and these tires have a problem with the sidewalls. Should be recalled and replaced with known quality tires. No incident occurred, saw problem before hand.

4th tire failure, Goodyear LT235?80R17 several side wall tire splits, both outer surfaces of tire. Tire had 10/32 of 15/32 tread remaining, this tire is one already replaced by Goodyear. The casing is at West tire svc, 4000 hwy 281 North, marble falls, TX78654, phone 830/693-0475, fax: 830/693-0602. Would be nice if you impounded tis tire for examination and fact finding before they ship it away. There was no accident or curb bounce involved, just a faulty tire and it's interesting to note that all my driving on Michelin tires never had a mess like this one and my driving style has not changed.
