I had just dropped off my wife at the airport and I was driving 75 mph down the toll road, home, when all hell broke loose. It started with a loud bang on the floorboard. I felt it pretty good. Then it started hopping down the interstate, bouncing along. I tried to step on the brakes, when they went to the floor. It finally rolled to a stop on the side of the road. I shut it off and turned on the 4 ways, then I realized that I had no lights on the back of the truck. I looked under the truck, well I am glad it wasn't a gas job, as I feel it would have caught fire when the fuel lines, brake lines and the wiring harness were all ripped out from under the truck and were hanging there. I am glad to be alive.
Problem is, I am a Dodge guy from way back. I can't believe this happened with no warning...

I was heading southbound on I-87 in New York State going 65 mph when a loud explosion like a grenade going off occurred followed up by loud noise of parts hitting the floorboard. My passenger and myself thought the explosion was going to blow up through the floor boards of the truck. I was barely able to coast to the side of the highway with vehicles passing at high speed. There was a large amount of oil from the transfer case onto the pavement. There was a great deal of damage - wires torn out, brake lines, fuel lines appeared to be ripped out. Once we stopped, I noticed the dashboard 4 wheel drive light had come on, emergency blinker lights only worked in the front of the truck not the back end. The only two things I can think of that would have caused such devastation are a malfunction of the computer engaging the truck into 4 WD at high speed or the clutch defaulted in the transfer case causing the blow up. This was a life threatening incident and I was very fortunate to be able to get off the highway without causing a major accident. This truck is extremely well maintained, checked oil levels regularly, and I sincerely believe this was the result of a defective part from the factory. I would appreciate input on ideas or experiences from anyone. Thanks.
