Ram 3500

  • 90,000 miles
It has been several years now but after extensive research I have decided to take action. I was driving my pick-up in town when I lost my gauge lights and I noticed at the same time I lost all my maker lights on the vehicle. I pulled over and found a blown fuse in the fuse box and replaced it with a new one. Right away it blew again only this time it also blew the cercit in the totally integrated power module, wichata left me no choice but to bypass the curcit and get power to my lights form another source. The next day I went to the dealer and was told it is a common problem and the tipm is $850 that don't include the cost of replacing it and then programing it ti the vehicle. So I decided I wasn't going to pay that much for something that I had already fixed by bypassing the problem. Then a few years later I was driving down the highway around 65 mph at night when I lost my high beam headlights upon further diagnosis I found it to be the tipm at fault again. I spoke with the dealer about it and they told me it too was a common problem. So I filed a complaint with Chrysler about both issues and told them they needed to get it fixed and they told me they would look into it. So I let it go without pressing the issue any further. As to my knowledge nothing has been done. But after extensive research I have found more serious problems with the tipm, that Dodge needs to acknowledge and bite the bullet and fix the problems. Due to these issues being major safety problems. (I.e. loss of wipers, loss of low beam headlights, and turn signal flashing the wrong way)

Discovered that there was a recall on the malfunction switch. I carried my vehicle to the Dodge dealership. I was refused to have the switch replaced because I was told I was 700 miles over the warranty. I tried to explain that this was a recall to no avail. My switch is doing exactly as described, at intermittent times the switch will display the opposite direction chosen. Turn right blinker on and left comes on, etc. Also sometimes the switch will not turn headlights from dim to bright or bright to dim. This is a major safety concern as it gives the wrong intention on turns and also blinding oncoming traffic. These issues could possibly cause a crash.

I was driving down a two lane road at 70mph when approaching my road. I turned on my left blinker to signal my upcoming turn and when I began to turn the car behind me went to pass thinking that I was turning right. To avoid hitting me he went off the road into the ditch. When I talked to him about what happened he said that my right blinker was on. I have noticed this problem before on my truck and have noticed it since so I know he was telling the truth. There needs to be a recall on this before someone gets hurt. I also have trouble switching my high beams off or on causing problems with oncoming traffic on a daily basis.

The wiper stopped working except for a very slow speed when the selector was in the "high" position. After several minutes, this also stopped working. The turn signal began to malfunction at the same time leading me to believe the column multifunction switch was at fault. When activating the left turn signal, the right signal would often turn on instead of the left. Auto parts stores informed me that the multifunction switch is not currently available at any price.

I was driving down the street just about to make a left hand turn so I turned on my left signal when I did that my windshield wipers stopped working plus with my left signal on it wasn't blinking to the left it was blinking to the right. So without my windshield wipers I had to pullover because I couldn't see. I turned the truck off then back on and the windshield wipers started working again. But everytime I use my left signal my right one blinks and my windshield wipers stop working.

When using the turn indicator, either the opposite indicator comes on, or neither work. Also, the windshield wipers don't work properly. They seem to operate randomly (e.g., work at high speed with the switch in the off position, or don't work at all with the switch in any position). It appears to me that the multi-function switch is defective. This problem nearly caused an accident while I was driving at highway speeds (60 mph)during a rainstorm and the wipers wouldn't operate. I had to drive to the side of the highway and shut off the ignition switch to resolve the problem. A less experienced driver may have had more severe consequences.

Ram 3500

  • 3,000 miles
Bought the 3500 megacab cummins with the G56 6 speed manual in Nov 2005 and by the way this was the 3rd cummins I've owned and the worst, great motor but not happy with manufacture this time. So I bought in Nov 05 and Dec.25 started it up and check engine light stayed on, so I shut it off and called dealer next day. This was the start of it all. Every 3day this would happen and I had to drive 23 miles to dealer to have them plug it up to computer and still could not tell me what was wrong. This went on for 14 months ended up buying my own module to reset myself. During all this found the issue with vents and broken dampers in ductwork and started having problems with the power back window cable broke then new one[S] leaked, 3 of them and then the window stopper fell off so I have had 4 rear power windows installed. After all that at 68000 miles I lost 2,4 and 6th gear 80 miles away from home and had to limp it home holding shifter in 6th gear whole time, broken shift tower that wasn't cheap. Then I stared having problems with blowing white smoke on startup come to find I have a injector acting up and the dealer said the fix was a $120 bottle of injector cleaner and dog the [xxx] out of it. At about 75,000 miles started having the turn signal switch problem turn left and the right signal flashed and the shake in the front end and have had 4 front end alignment and new set of tires now have 125,000 mile still get the shake and past do to give up in this beast.
