delay in acceleration when accelerator is depressed
My Dodge Ram 3500 6.7L Cummins diesel exhibits a serious three to five second delay in acceleration when the accelerator pedal is depressed, There is no response at all for several seconds and then it accelerates rapidly to match the accelerator pedal position, which is usually floored in the attempt to get the truck to accelerate. The problem is intermittent. It only happens occasionally, more often when the truck is cold, but not always. It is unpredictable.
The problem might be something related to the throttle positon sensor or throttle body. A clogged fuel filter or faulty lift pump would most likely cause slow acceleration, where the acceleration starts immediately when the accelerator pedal is pressed but the acceleration is less than it should be throughout the entire range of the pedal. Whatever the cause, the problem has nearly resulted in several accidents and cannot be ignored. As soon as I can afford it I will take it in for service at the Dodge dealership. This kind of problem shouldn't happen in a vehicle with so few miles on it. So many people have reported this problem Dodge should have done something to resolve it.
If there is any technical guidance from Dodge on this I can't find it. Most people I know of are still reporting that their Dodge dealerships are treating these failures as unusual, isolated incidents and have passed the repair expense off on their customers.
