Just bought this 2001 dodge stratus 2.7 liter engine. about 1 month after buying it I noticed the oil light coming on at an idle and would go off when I hit the gas. I had just had the oil changed, The next thing I hear really got me pissed... I started hearing a knock in the lower engine. That really has me worried now. Can anyone tell me if there is a recall on this issue because I have been reading some of the forums here and see a lot of dodge owners are having the same problem. Any help would be grateful.

DIAGNOSIS: Verify engine oil pressure as described on page 9-21 of the 1999 Concorde/Intrepid/LHS/300M service manual (Publication No. 81-270-9140). If engine oil pressure is within specification perform the Repair Procedure.

Hello.
The Oil light in my Dodge Stratus came on one day while sitting at idle at a stop light. The slightest increase in RPM's would extinguish the light. I drove around like this for a month, debating on what to do. Becoming more and more worried about how expensive it might be to fix. I starting looking at websites like this and became even more nervous. I took the car to a local shop and he suggested first replacing the oil sender switch, which they did, Cost 69.00. Driving home, the light started coming on at 1,000 RPM's. I immediately called the Dodge dealer, whom I don't care for, and brought my car in that night. The service manager immediately started suggesting that I find another car, that engine sludge from improper oil weight was the likely problem. She went on to tell me that the problem was not fixable and that I should trade it in while it still was running. The Dealer tested oil pressure and checked the engine and found no signs of engine sludge. Once the computer was reset with the new sender switch, the light went out. A month has past with no recurrence.
If you are reading this and stressing out about taking you car in, I've been there. I've also had a Dodge Service Manager tell me that I should junk the car and get a new one, before she even looked at it. The engine is fine and the oil pump is creating 27 psi. I think that light comes on around 7-8 psi. Engine sludge is an issue with the 2.7L engine, but its not the only cause for that light to come on. My sympathy to those who were not a fortunate with their engine. Good Luck.

Replace tie rod end took car in to have alignment done. While there go a head and change the oil. I drive 70 miles one way for work when I got to work and stopped at the light. The oil light came on. So I called Pep boys back they said bring it in we will look to see if their may be a leak or something got there and nothing. I only do Highway driving in this car it had 40,000 miles on it when I bought it. Loved the car up until today. Not sure what I am going to do. I will see if I can have the pressure checked but not sure if they can do that. I just put new tires on over $400. Plus the new tie rods if I would not have done that myself $240 front end alignment $65. and now this. I would hate to have to replace the engine I think I will buy a new Scion which is a branch of Toyota who is soon to be the number one car company in the world. They passed Ford and are working on GM right now. Cant get a good built American car anymore. Even though most Foreign cars are more built in the states than the so called American Cars

My oil light began flickering on and off right when I got on the road to take a road trip to "Grandma's house". Fearing a serious problem was exisitng, I postpone my trip and took the car to have it diagnosed. Three different mechanics, including a Dodge Dealer, told me they couldn't replicate the problem. Finally, the fourth mechanic told me a need a new sending unit. I replace the part and it stopped flickering for about 3-4 months and then started back doing the same thing. Shortly afters, the motor went out all together.

I USED TO LOVE THIS CAR AND NOW I'M SCARED TO DRIVE IT!!!! THE OIL LIGHT FLICKERS NOW, I HAVEN'T GOTTEN A DIAGNOSIS ON IT YET BUT I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE BAD. IF IT IS THE ENGINE, I REFUSE TO REBUILD IT! AFTER ALL OF THE MONEY I PUT INTO IT, AND EVEN THOUGH I HAVE NO MONEY TO BUY ANOTHER ONE I THINK I'D RATHER WALK!!!! STUPID CAR!!!!

Oil light comes on after driving around 10 miles. Not low on oil and I replaced the oil sending unit. The problem still exists. No after-market part and the dealership wants $586 for a new one... yes, almost $600 for an oil pump!@*%!! The engine runs fine and sounds normal, but the light really stresses me!

Now, this is my second complaint on this car. I start it, it seems fine, but after the car warms up, and I come to a stop light and let it idle, the oil light comes on. I don't know how to fix this problem, but other people seem to have the same problem I have. If soemone can help my problem, it would be greatly appreciated.
