This seems to be another common problem with a lot of Ford products. The levers that you move to either choose between heat/vent/ac or to adjust between warm/cold will eventually snap off. This one took a trip to the junkyard for a cheap used part, but the way it's installed in the dash requires taking half the dashboard apart (which hasn't been done yet). It's a very time consuming job, and would probably cost quite a bit if done at a repair shop. Between 98000 and 109000 miles, this car has had something in the neighborhood of $2500 needed in repairs. That includes a transmission rebuild, all four power windows, O2 sensors and now this one. With spring almost here, this problem and 2 of the windows have yet to be fixed. My suggestion to anyone reading this is to get a newer one with the EOD transmission... better yet, go with the newer style (starting in 1998) and hope they've solved some of the problems.
