After doing some research about this I found there was a class action suit filed against Ford for this problem and Ford had to fix them as long as they ell under the warranty time line which in my case my car was to old to fall under this class action law suit. I called Ford and got the run around one person said yes it was covered so I had my car towed over to the dealer and they informed me it was not covered so I called Ford again and they said no it was not covered and had no record of my earlier call. Why should there be any time line to get it fixed? If Ford knows that the intake manifold is defective like this then they should replace all of them class action lawsuit or not. Ford needs to stop giving people the run around and start replacing known defective parts. I heard there was an extension to the lawsuit so I am looking for information on that, if I find a solution to the intake manifold I will post it in a comment.

Plastic intake maniford cracked. Repair service advised all 1996 Ford Crown Victoria's have PLASTIC intake manifolds, all will crack eventually, around 105,000 and no metal replacements available. ONLY PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLDS are used for replacement, which WILL CRACK again! I HATE FORD PRODUCTS AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD!!!! I'd rather take a bus than trust FORD again after they continually refuse to take any action for the 3 million + Crown Vic's out here!

My wife called and said car was leaking coolant all over, especially on top of motor. I got the car home but couldn't tell where the leak was. Thinking it was a burst hose, I went to work and checked everything, hoses, water pump, radiator and thermostat. Still couldn't find leak, so I removed fan, housing and still no luck. My mechanic came by and after checking it all again, no luck. Then we could see coolant leaking, not much though, from area behind alternater. After removing alternater, filled water level to normal and pressure tested and ran engine for a while. Finally while full under full pressure, we saw a crack across the front of the intake. Over the weekend I checked around for prices, $583. On Monday I called mechanic and he told me that he found out that this was a defect in the intake on all 4.6 liter engines and that Ford knew about for years and there was a recall. After arguing with Ford customer services and a local dealer, I found out that the recall was only for police and taxi vechicles seven years earlier. US POOR CIVILIAN MODEL OWNERS WERE LEFT WITH OUR BUTTS BLOWING IN THE WIND. I'VE BEEN FILING COMPLAINTS ALL OVER TO NO AVAIL. I have learned from several sources that Ford not only saved millions on this, but since every intake will probably fail sooner or later, they are making a bundle selling converted intakes left and right. The people at local dealers, parts and service, will tell you that people come in all the time to buy these converted intakes to replace the cracked ones. If you have a late model Crown Vic, be prepared to deal with this if you haven't already. At roughly $800.00, at a independent shop, those big wigs at Fix Or Repair Daily (FORD) are laughing all the way to the bank. Where are all the consumer advocates, the goverment (Federal Trade Comm.) and Ralph Nader??? I for one will not be buying another Ford. When I described how bad the problem was, really awful, I sure wasn't saying what I did when this happened.

On vacation in Oregon when I had this problem. Now it is 2010 and about 30 thousand miles down the road and guess what is the problem..the same thing, cracked intake with antifreeze leaking down into my plugs causing car to miss. And there is no permanet fix for this problem. This car is only good to be a boat anchor and I presume it would take a poop trying to do that also!
