In December of 2005 a man filed a lawsuit against Ford Motor Company. The court ruled in his favor and Ford was suppose to notify all owners of Ford Crown Victoria models from 1996-2000 that there would be a recall due to a class action lawsuit for they produced these plastic intake manifolds that have a coolant chamber flow through them which cracks supposedly at 450,000 miles mine at 100,000. I was never notified and I replaced my first coil pack in January 2006. The coil packs short out when the intake cracks and coolant leaks into the combustion chamber or around the sparkplug and coil pack which is on plug with a 7mm bolt securing it. Since then I have replaced a second and soon to be a third. The check engine light comes on after the car runs for a day to a week or bit longer with a miss. Then you get a misfire on cylinder #_ and replace it to the given number. Well at Ford it will cost about $1,600.00 to replace the intake. I located one on a Google search for the "98 Ford Crown Vic intake manifold" it runs $199.00 and has an aluminum mold for the coolant jacket in the intake. I still have to put it on or take it to a garage. Carr's Automotive in Lakeland Florida quoted $315.00 for Labor.

Ford Should Pay For This If There Was Ever A Recall. It should not be time limited and I should have been contacted but was not. I will never buy another Ford at this point and we have owned 4. Another one was a Pinto in the 80's when they begin blowing up from a bolt puncturing the gas tank when rear ended. They found it cheaper to settle the lawsuits than to tack on about 5 dollars a car to resolve the problem.
