total loss of steering at 55mph

WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WENT AND THE CAR WAS TOTALLY WITHOUT CONTROL, LEAVING THE ROAD AND PASSING THRU THE DITCH AND INTO A FIELD. I BELIEVE THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE, IF FORD HAS A RECALL ON THIS OR WERE AWARE THIS COULD HAPPEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE POACTIVE TO RESOLVE THE CONDITION .
