I love my 02 Lariat. I left chevys because of problems with vehicles and chevy dealers! Replaced the transmission in this one at 140 k, So that kinda stuff happens right, but a spark plug blowing out because there isn't enough threads in the block. That's just down right stupid engineering! I'm sure there is a machinist somewhere that is saying this will never work and did it anyway! Aw the ol mighty dollar is much greater than honor and american reliability.

This is the 3rd time a spark plug has blown out of the engine. Each time was a different plug and the fix seemed to work each time. This time when the ignition coil broke off, the coil retaining bolt stripped and I will have to pry it out and JB weld it back in so the new bolt will tighten.

This happened on my way to work. Now I have no way to work. Don't know what it is going to cost to fix. Think Ford should have to fix this problem with the weak metal used in the heads.

E-150 Harley Davidson Edition 5.4L

I was driving along on a side street and all of a sudden I heard a very loud POW like a gun shot. My truck started to shake a lot like it had a tire blow out. I pulled over but all the tires were still fine but the truck was shaken violently and popping very loud. When I looked under the hood I could see a spark plug on top of the passenger side of the engine.

This truck only has 46,600 miles with the original spark plugs. You can see where the plug was screwed into the head by only 4 threads but the plug has 10 threads. Reading all the complaints on the different web sites it seems that it is a design problem or a quality issue over looked by Ford. As usual they never want to accept responsibility and the consumer pays the bill.

At first I was going to replace the heads with after market heads so it would never happen again but Citrus Ford in Ontario said they could fix it and they never had a car they repaired this on come back in 10 years. They said they repair this problem about 6 times a year. This could be a dangerous situation on the freeway since the truck looses power and shakes so bad. The Ford dealer also said it could catch fire since the fuel is still going into that cylinder and the coil is still sparking. A $1300 repair bill that should be paid by Ford.

First plug and coil blew out and had to have insert put in. Costly. Week later had another coil and plug go out. Now today there is another one out. Ford needs to do something about this or reduce the cost of the repairs at a Ford dealership. There is no excuse for this when they know they have an issue like this. I have been a Ford man all my life and have never had these types of issues on one. Fords have always been top notch and able to put a lot of miles on them. Come on Ford step up to the plate and help back your supporters!

So, from what I'm reading for really screwed the pooch on this! Numerous problems all on the same thing, this needs to be a recall, my brother just had the same thing happen on his f150. Were paying for a defect out of our own pockets, what's new, screwing Americans!
