I'm at the Ford dealer right now (28 Aug 2015). This is the second time here for this problem. There is clicking, thunking, thumping and the steering feels a bit shaky. Feels like something is coming apart. I had the vehicle here (dealer) a few months ago with the same problem.
The problem, according to the service manager, was and I assume now (today), is the electronic power assist rack. It was replaced a few months ago, but the problem is back. The service manager also reported that the 4x4 transfer case, or something related to the 4x4 system was locking up and they fixed this too. Seems like this is a common problem on F-150s and Expeditions with electric power assist.
I like Ford products, I payed too much $$$ for this thing to be having these kind of problems. Good thing I have the extended warranty. During my first visit at the dealer for this issue, the service rep was telling me what was wrong after checking the vehicle out. When I told him that I had the extended warranty, he seemed to be a bit disappointed and kept telling me he'd have to call the warranty company to see if was covered. I had already called the warranty co. and verified the coverage. Service rep seemed to be dragging his feet calling to get authorization, so I called the warranty co. on my mobile phone and handed it to the service rep to speak with the warranty rep. I was essentially doing his job...sad and disappointing. Other than this issue I'm pretty satisfied with the truck.
