Oil leaking from ptu unit Ford wants $ 1600 to fix what seems to be a faulty (defective) system in Ford Edges.
- Powell, OH, USA
We noticed an oil like substance leaking from underneath the front end of the car. We took it to a Ford dealership and they told us it was the transfer case needed to be replaced. Not only is it a $1500 repair but it is a common problem happening to Ford Edge's years 2007 - 2011. Sounds to me like a recall should be made on this part. We caught ours early, so not sure what could've happened if we continued to drive ours around.

January 18, 2013, in the middle of winter, drove 2007 Ford Edge, with 40,466 miles, to an auto repair shop because the heater & defroster were not working. The auto repair shop flushed the coolant and the heater core and installed new coolant because the heater core was clogged with metal debris. Eight months later, September 22, 2013 and 57,000 miles, same problem, the heater & defroster were not working. Five days later, returned the vehicle to auto repair shop because of strong coolant smell and the engine fans were turning off and on. This time, the shop determined the heater core is clogged and needs to be replaced. In addition, the auto repair shop discovered Ford's tsb 09M04S1. This Ford tsb, issued 3/31/2010, guarantees the following: "owners of affected vehicles are entitled to a cooling system flush and refill and a warranty extension on the heater core to six years or 105,000 miles from four years or 50,000 miles. Affected vehicles may have poor heater performance." Ford Motor Co acknowledges a manufacturer's defect; however, after three escalated demand letters and three escalated demand phone calls, Ford Motor Co refuses to honor their warranty and make the $2600 in necessary repairs to get the 2007 Ford Edge with 57,000 miles back on the road because, Ford says, the warranty expired on May 1, 2013.

While driving my '07 Ford Edge on the expressway I noticed that my car would not accelerate above 60 mph and began stalling. I exited the expressway to notice this burning smell coming from under the hood of my car. I attempted to drive it to a safe place to park when it just completely shut down. I had the car towed to a well know auto shop where I was told that an ignition coil was burned and the reason my car stalled. I had the ignition coil replaced and the car still would not restart. I had it towed to another shop and was told the crank shaft and cam shaft sensor needed to be replaced. I paid for these services and finally was told the computer on the car was burned and this is the reason that my car would not start. Finally my car has been towed to Ford and I am awaiting its fate. I have only had the car for two years and this is the second electrical issue that I have encountered with this vehicle. At first, I was changing rear turn signals almost 1-2 a week. I purchased my Edge January 2010 and had to replace the battery July 2010. After reading other forums I am concerned about the potential electrical fires that this SUV could produce.

There are three main issues with my 2007 Ford Edge. First the brakes make noises and sometimes work and sometimes don't. the tires kept going flat. I have replaced all 4 four tires and one front and one back tire twice now. The transmission slips frequently.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while accelerating after stopping at a stop sign the vehicle would not move forward. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer performed a diagnostic but no failure codes generated. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000 and the current mileage was approximately 27,000.

Our 2007 Ford Edge has experienced the engine cutting off without warning three times. The dealer reprograms the PCM module but the problem continues. It was reprogrammed on 7/20/2010 and it cut off again on 7/23/2010 at 50 mph again without any warning. This is an unnerving, unsafe condition. This has happened over a 13 month period, twice now within a month.
