Edge SE 3.5L, V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,000 miles

my husband and I were going to his dad's for christmas this past year, and during our 3 1/2 hour drive we decided to use the cruise control. As fun as it is sounds to experience the effects of a "run-away train" - it's a bit disconcerting when your vehicle decides to take off like a bat out of hell when you are pushing the "Set -" button to reduce the speed!!!! As crazy as this sounds... when the speed control is set, and you want to coast down a mph or two, all you're supposed to have to do is hit the set - button and it should reduce your speed accordingly. Well, not my 2008 Ford Edge!! Fasten your seat belts and hold on to you hats!!!! Cause you'll get the ride of your life! I would say that 8 out of 10 times it works @ss backwards like this, and only occasionally functions as it was meant to. What ever ya do... Never hold down the "Set -" button on MY car cause it will take you for the ride of your life! I got from 60 to 90mph in less than 3 seconds one day trying to figure out how to get it to work properly. Needless to say.... we tend not to use this function anymore. This was not even the first time this has happened.... I've been trying to figure it out for Years... I even mentioned it to the dealership where I have it inspected every year, and they could not find anything wrong with it they told me. Guess it will just be one of those quirky things that we avoid like the plague.

Edge SEL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,800 miles

Was driving on interstate at about 75 MPH on level pavement with the cruise control engaged. Without any warning or interaction (I did not touch the cruise control buttons) the cruise control engaged and started racing the engine and speeding up. The car was doing over 90 MPH before I was able to disengage the cruise control mechanism. Took the car to the dealership and they ran diagnostics on it and could not replicate or diagnose the problem. No help. Happened again on the way to the dealership to have it looked at. Speed was 70 MPH when it happened and on downhill slope.
