  • 150,000 miles
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. While driving 50 mph, the engine stalled on the highway. When the contact exited the highway, the engine was smoking. The contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to ganley Ford West (16100 lorain ave, cleveland, oh 44111, (216) 941-9800) where it was diagnosed that the water pump leaked coolant into the engine and a new engine needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 150,000.

When the ac is running, the car will stall out. It has happened in traffic on the high way and surburban streets. When idle and ignition is turned off then on again, the vehicle will not start. After approx. 35-55 minutes the car will then start. Finally, it is happening after longer periods of time. I was parked in a lot for several hours, when I went to start it the car would not turn over. I had to have it towed to my house where it did start again 1.5 hours later. I fear for my children's lives.

Edge

  • 137,500 miles
My Edge has about 137,000 miles on it and the water pump failed when we were almost 200 miles away from home. I received no warning lights for low coolant, or overheating engine, just noticed it on the temp guage. Normally a water pump replacement is not a big deal and can be done pretty quickly in a few hours and for under $500 for parts and labor, but because of this particular design in these Ford the engine has to be basically taken apart and it will take about 13 hours of labor to complete the job. The parts for this job are less than $200 but because of the labor and the extensiveness this repair it is going to cost me between $1200 - $1800 to complete and that is not even at the dealer. Not only do I need to have the water pump replaced but because of the failure it dumps coolant into the oil and oil into the coolant system which means I will need to have the oil changed and the coolant system flushed as well. All of these things start to add up. I have even read where this failure can cause so much damage to the engine the entire thing needs replaced. Ford is aware of this design flaw but has decided not to do anything about it on this particular model and others using the same engine. I don't have any documentation to upload yet as my car is still at the shop and I am not expecting to get it back for a week. I am just praying there is no damage to the engine.

The dealer (oroville Ford, 1350 oro dam blvd w, oroville, ca 95965, (530) 533-3313) diagnosed that the water pump seal failed and caused internal intrusion of water and oil, which contaminated the engine. The dealer indicated that the engine assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.

Brake booster has failed, and now engine won't idle properly and stalls due to vacuum leak from the bad brake booster. I had reported symptoms (hissing, occasional hard pedal, etc.) during service visits while my "bumper to bumper" warranty was still in effect, but was told it was "noise from the new brake pads" and it just needed the brake fluid topped off. Symptoms persisted, but then service bulletin 13N02 was announced, and because my car was manufactured 2 months before the dates covered in the service bulletin the dealership has still refused to cover the costs. So I now have a 2010 Edge that is not only hard to stop, but also now stalls out when it does stop!

I was at a stopped light when the ABS light came on and the car locked up and began shaking. I immediately turned the ignition off and then on again. I wasn't able to use the gas or brakes so I turned the car back off immediately again. After having the vehicle towed to a Ford dealership, they informed me that the water pump burst and all of the coolant ran into the engine causing it to fail. I've only had the vehicle for five years and maintenance has always been up to date via Ford dealerships. During these various maintenance checks, Ford has never notified me of any possible issues with my vehicle and now my engine has failed and I've never had any other issues with my vehicle.

When driving on the highway a light that looks like a wrench comes on, the vehicle starts running rough and then the engine shuts off, it's hard to turn the steering wheel. This problem has repeated itself 4 times only when driving on the highway. After turning off the engine and removing the key, I can re-start the vehicle and continue. Once it happened again maybe 2 minutes later. My mechanic believes it is the electronic throttle body part. He also told me Ford has had a recall on this specific part on Edge's.

My car started leaking transmission fluid, and as I continue to drive it it started to cut off. I took it to two different repair shops for second opinion. They both told me that the engine was gone. The car has less than 50,000 miles on it, and it's a 2010 how can that be? I need to know about the engine recall for this car. I should not have to pay for an engine please help me because this is not right. I know there is a safety recall on a fuel leak for this model car. I've also researched somethings about engine recalls and found that there is, but I want to know for sure when I take the car to the Ford repair shop. Please help me. I am thanking you in advance for your help.

Edge

  • 65,000 miles
Sudden engine failure at 65,000 miles when driving at about 45 miles per hour. The Ford dealership where the vehicle had been serviced said there was a loss of antifreeze and the engine overheated and needs to be replaced. I was stranded on the airport road with no feeder and had to call 911. There was no warning lights to go on or any warning. When reading other post on internet the car behaved just as those who had confirmed that there was a water pump failure. This was the Ford duratec engine where the water pump is driven with the timing chain and if it fails the water enters the oil system and destroys the engine.

  • 98,000 miles
Our 2010 Ford Edge in the past few years has stalled after making a slow turn on 4 separate occasions. During the first 3 occurances the we could the car immediately. The last occurance was last Friday after coming out of a slow turn the car lost all functionality and I was able to roll to the side of the road where it would not start again and it had to be towed. When it got to the auto shop it started again and the mechanic could not recreate the problem or find a problem with their computer diagnostics. Needless to say the unexplained engine failure was not fixed. I am afraid to drive the vehicle anymore because of the potential of a serious accident resulting in injury or death.

Today, my wife brought her 2010 Ford Edge in for the 3rd time in a matter of 3 weeks, to the local dealership. The problem is while she is driving, the check engine light will come on and the engine will stall leaving her stranded in the middle of traffic, after a minute she can restart it but it happens shortly after that. They had replaced a sensor on the last visit but yet again today the light came back on and it stalled several times before she could get it home. This places my wife and others in traffic with her in danger as when the car stalls there is no way to warn other drivers and could cause an accident. I do not believe the dealership has any clue as to what is going on with this vehicle. I have done some research online using google and have found there are many others out there who seem to have had the same problem and no one seems to have a definite reason as to why.
