The contact-€™s granddaughter owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon exiting the vehicle, his granddaughter noticed a strong gasoline odor. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that the bracket had rusted and had caused the gas tank to rust and leak. The independent mechanic also advised the contact that the bracket and gas tank needed to be replaced and that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V712000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist since the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. Consumer stated check engine light comes on when the vehicle gets to 1/2 tank of fuel. Original recall issue was prior to 07/2010. Consumer offered to pay for the repair but Ford could not guarantee to repay the consumer.
