I bought the car used last November. The passenger door wasn't working at that time. It was fixed. The driver's door has been gradually getting worse the last few months. I took it in to be fixed under the warranty, but it wasn't covered.

Edge SEL 3.0L V6

The door ajar warning lights are almost always lit. This results in the dome light staying on while driving for a short period of time. This causes the battery to run down unnecessarily. On a much more serious note, the dome light stays on while I'm backing out of parking spaces, my garage, etc. and creates a very dangerous situation because I'm unable to see behind me very well. I really think Ford should address this issue!

Door ajar light stays on, therefore the doors will not lock and the interior lights stay on for quite a long time, this makes driving at night very dangerous. Then when u exit the car the interior lights stay on and in the winter time it is sometimes enough to run the battery down.

Driver and rear doors show that they are ajar when closed. Lights stay on long after the car is off. Replaced the battery twice due to lights staying on. Car shuts down all electrical to save power when the key is turned off. If doors are open longer than the time required to enter the car the battery become too weak to start the car. unloading the car after shopping with the car or off will cause the car not to start. This seems to be related to many electrical problems on 2011 Ford Edges.

There are a lot of complaints about this problem, and it appears that Ford is under investigation for this issue. I've had a few Fords now, and their service is absolutely horrible - not to mention that they don't care that their brand now is a symbol of inferior engineering and customer service, shoddy craftsmanship and the trust lost from many people. The question is simply, "Why?" Apparently the vendor that makes the particular part has a close relationship with the leadership...

Our 2011 Ford Edge has the driver's "door ajar" light coming on since about April 2016. Ford refuses to correct this problem (unless it's at my expense) even though it appears to be widely experienced by other users as well.

Since the vehicle "thinks" the door is open, the interior lights stay on which ultimately will drain down the battery. Additionally, while driving down the road, if for some reason we wanted to lock the doors (say someone was trying to break in or something) with the electronic lock control, it will not operate properly because again, the vehicle things there is a door open. This is particularly disturbing as we have small children in the back seats. If someone wanted to reach in the back and swipe a child at a stop light or something, I can't even lock the doors from my driver seat. This is a MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.

Ford, do the right thing and recall this item for a fix....

All this happened after I have just had my right rear tire sensor replaced ($400) and my gas gauge repaired ($900) on this same vehicle. Geez, when will this end on this vehicle...

Thanks.

This has been repaired by the Ford Dealer in our area .They said a new latch assembly would be around $375.00 or they could use a special tool ? to repair for $225.00 which so far the problem has been resolved .

We looked on Car Complaints before taking he car in for repairs and there are numerous complaints about this problem .Door ajar light staying on ,dome light staying on ,can affect rear view camera and door locks not working properly .I think Ford should pay for these repairs .I suppose Ford will have to wait until someone gets killed before they do something .

Annoying message kept coming up on display saying door ajar. Interior light would not shut off unless you hit ok on the steering wheel to override the error. However if you were not inside the car the interior lights stayed on for quite some time before going off. Always feared I was going to have a dead battery.

Driver's rear passenger door starting have the door ajar light coming on intermitenly. Then the front passInenger door ajar message started. Tried WD40 but did not improve. Interior light continued to stay on and it did kill my battery. I feel it is a safety issue due to the interior light stays on unless you arein the car to override the message by hitting OK on the steering wheel and drive a few miles. In the meantime with interior lights on it makes it difficult to back up at night time due to having the glaring light in your face. Always extra careful to be sure I don't have any cars or pedestrians behind me when backing up at night. We decided to order the parts online and fix it ourselves as my husband is mechanically inclined as he works on million dollar aircrafts. Also the local dealer said it was about $325 with parts and labor to fix the back passenger door but up to $500 for front passenger door. I feel this should be a recall item with Ford as it seems to be a problem. I haven't had the same door showing up with the message since the switch has been replaced, but the first one was replaced after only having the car 2 yrs.

Update from Jun 20, 2016: Local dealer told me to call Ford to put in a complaint so it could possibly be a recall. I advise everyone having the same problem to call the Ford 1-800 #

Rear door ajar sensor went bad. No way to tell if door is truly open or if it is just the sensor. This makes it a safety issue. Quick internet search shows that this is a chronic problem that Ford has been aware of for some time. Is Ford just waiting for a kid to fall out the back door to finally recall the part?

Diver side door remains ajar and interior lights stay on. Initially only occasional, then frequent, now all the time. Killed my battery; now had to take the fuse out so the lights never come on. Currently getting repairs for OTHER issues so haven't wanted to spend the money to get it fixed. No home "remedies" have consistently fixed the issue - hoping for a recall. Afraid to take it in for $600 and the issue not truly be resolved.

I curious to know what it takes for automobile company to pay attention to it's customers. My first car was a GM, before it was a year old I had to replace the Heater core And rear main seal Needless to say I have never bought another GM product to this dateThat was back in 1987. The reason why I'm telling you this is because now since then I've got nothing but Ford products However if you the Ford Motor Company do not take care of my problem and all the other people that are complaining about these problems that I will no longer by Ford And I'm sure a lot of other people will not either So it behooves to take care of the problem. Thank you Eric Nagel

This is apparently a common problem on Ford vehicles, our driver side door adjar sensor began coming on intermittently and has since became worse to the point of staying on, this is a real problem because it leave on the dome lights causing a hindrance while trying to drive and could possible cause a wreck, it also kills the battery in the car which is a pain for obvious reasons, and it keeps the doors from locking which could lead to our car being broken into and personal belongings being stolen.

I purchased my 2011 Ford Edge new several years ago. My warranty just recently expired, and I purchased an extended warranty. Recently my passenger door ajar light kept coming on. I didn't pay much attention to it; honestly just thought it was a sensor and I would take it in to get looked at. Eventually the light stayed on all the time, and even made my interior light stay on as well. I took it to my local Ford dealership this week, and it is not the door sensor, but the door latch. This is not covered under my warranty, and I will be paying $430 to get it fixed. The part only is $380. I am furious. I have read on numerous sites that this is a common issue with Ford Edge's. They really should recall this.

Original owner. Door ajar light will not go off. Started sporadically now on all the time. Sprayed with electrical cleaner and wd40 as some reports indicated that this could fix the problem. It did not fix mine. Just wondering how safe this is for my wife and kids to be riding around in? I have read many reports that this is a common problem with this vehicle but I guess people have to die before Ford considers it a real problem.

door ajar light stays on, dome lights, and alarm sounds

Not only is this an annoying problem, it's a safety concern. While driving, the door locks will not engage, so the child safety locks in the backseat are not working, and anyone can just open my door and jump into my car at anytime my vehicle is sitting at a stop. Another safety issue is I cannot lock my car doors when I park it, because it senses that a door is open and will immediately unlock the doors. If I set the alarm, it will set for a minute or so, then unlock again after a short period of time due to the sensor.

IF there is a time that the door sensor is working and I am able to set my alarm, for no apparent reason, the sensor will disengage (and this happens frequently in the middle of the night) the alarm will to sound thinking that the door has just been opened.

Another safety issue is the dome lights staying on until the car moves a certain distance, but in the case of backing up at night, it is almost impossible to see behind you with the dome lights on in your face.

I have had to replace my battery now 3 times since I purchased it on 07/04/2012 due to the continuous draw from the lights staying on after the vehicle is shut off (the computer thinking that the door is still open the interior and some exterior lights stay on for an extended period of time).

Update from Dec 23, 2016: Cont. Ajar light now alarm goes off constantly, and i have replaced the battery again. Dont feel safe in areas of travel and cant lock doors witout alarm going off.
