The door ajar light for driver and left passenger light come on every time I start my car and pretty much stays on the whole time while I'm driving. The only way to lock my car door is to manual lock and then start my car. My dome lights stay on until I get a certain distance and than turns off. Really hard to back up when the dome lights won't turn off. I'm always afraid I'm going to hit something when backing up. Just replaced a battery that was one yr old. The dome lights will randomly come on when the car is parked and had been for hours. My neighbors were always calling me to tell me my inside lights on my car were on in the garage. I have a neighbor and coworker having same problem with their Ford Edges. Coworker had door ajar sensor fixed and then began having electrical problems and camera issues.

I called Ford Edge and they took my complaint but wouldn't do anything about my issue. Apparently, they feel not a safety issue. Told them I would never buy a Ford Edge again and would call them everyday to talk about how Ford stinks for not taking care of this problem. I think everyone having this problem should call Ford everyday.

This is a big safety issue, and if my wife's car door does not stay locked during an accident or because all the dome lights come on when trying to drive at night and causes an accident. I will sue Ford for not having a reasonable recall. This is the biggest issue with the 2011 Ford Edge.

I just purchased my 2011 Ford Edge I'm already experiencing passenger door ajar is open a known issue with Ford SUVs. The light will eventually go out, you have to turn lights off of auto though. My daughter has a Ford Expedition that does the same thing. I've only had the vehicle 2 weeks so I'm scheduled to take back to the dealer to fix.

Not only is this an annoying problem, it's a safety concern. While driving, the door locks will not engage, so the child safety locks in the backseat are not working, and anyone can just open my door and jump into my car at anytime my vehicle is sitting at a stop. Another safety issue is I cannot lock my car doors when I park it, because it senses that a door is open and will immediately unlock the doors. If I set the alarm, it will set for a minute or so, then unlock again after a short period of time due to the sensor.

IF there is a time that the door sensor is working and I am able to set my alarm, for no apparent reason, the sensor will disengage (and this happens frequently in the middle of the night) the alarm will to sound thinking that the door has just been opened.

Another safety issue is the dome lights staying on until the car moves a certain distance, but in the case of backing up at night, it is almost impossible to see behind you with the dome lights on in your face.

I have had to replace my battery now 3 times since I purchased it on 07/04/2012 due to the continuous draw from the lights staying on after the vehicle is shut off (the computer thinking that the door is still open the interior and some exterior lights stay on for an extended period of time).

Rear Door Ajar! I am so tired of this happening. I had the problem fixed. And now not only is the rear still doing it but the front drivers doors does it as well. This problem leaves the light on for a very long time and has already drained my battery a few times. I recently had to buy a new battery due to the fact everything was going wrong. The windows was rolling up slow the radio and dash board took a long time to come on and finally the need to get a jump 3 times said it was time for a new battery. But what I am fearful of because of this problem is the doors do not lock while driving because door still says it is open. Some people say close it hard but it doesn't work. I have closed it all ways hard and soft it doesn't matter there is a default somewhere. I know there is not just a few of us there has to be more who have this problem.

I have had a Ford before and my husband has had 3, F150's but this 2011 Edge is not convincing me that my next car should be a FORD.

I had this problem fixed when my car was covered under warranty about 2 years ago and the problem came back. It's a real pain in the ass just standing in parking lots opening and closing the door till the sensor finally goes off. I remember it took the Ford dealership 2 days to fix this problem and they had to send it off-site because they couldn't fix it.

Door latch broken..this is the second time had to replace under extended warranty. Door ajar when door is shut..drains battery all of the time..First time owning a Ford. Door is shut have to keep slamming just to satisfy and save my battery. One day I had to be jump started three times. This is ridiculous..Ford needs to pay me back my $100 I spent on the deductible. Second time I didn't have to pay anything. I'm not a happy customer. Ford really needs to recall this issue.

I too have the driver side door AJAR issue. This issue seems very common when googling it and the fact FORD has not done a recall says a lot to me. I will NOT buy a ford again, since this problem is obvious and it's obvious they don't care.

To me this is a safety issue in regards to my life. I live in Canada where the temp can be -40' celcius. If I park my car or have to drive down a back road, then need to stop. The lights, console constantly go off and on. Because of this I have had the battery die and required a boost. If this happens in a secluded area I could freeze to death.

This has also caused my car alarm to go off many times at night for no reason. Which again killed my battery.

It is also a safety concern because now I don't trust if the door is properly closed or not. Hey FORD! don't you think it's important I can trust if my door is closed or not? This isn't a safety issue for you?

PS. The door sensor is also in a stupid area, and requires a fix too complicated fix to justify for such a small sensor with major purpose.

This issue is so irritating! I open and close the door several times and the light stays on!!! My biggest problem is when I shut the car off and lock it, the interior light stays on for about 15 (my husband and I timed it). That's INSANE for the interior light to be on that long DRAINING MY BATTERY! I REFUSE to pay for the repair, since it's a common issue that FORD should be willing to correct! If FORD doesn't issue a recall for the pain in the ass door issue, it's really going to make me reconsider ever buying a FORD vehicle again. There have been too many reports for something not to have happened by now. LISTEN UP FORD, YOU HAVE SOME UNSATISFIED CUSTOMERS and you all as a company should be more than willing to correct it!!!!

Edge SEL 3.2L V6

The defective/dirty door ajar sensor in the door latch assemble will cause the dome light to stay on as well as the radio. These items will drain down the battery overnight requiring a jump start in the morning. To get the sensor to make contact indicating that the door IS closed requires that the door be closed with excessive force sometimes 4 to 6 times. Ford issued a TSB on this problem requiring that the sensor be 'cleaned' only, with replacement of the sensor being done if the problem reoccurs.

Because the drivers side door latch wouldn't register that it was closed the interior lights would always stay on for at least 5 minutes whenever I drove somewhere, which was really annoying at night and it would run down the battery as well.

At first I could shut it harder and the open door light would go off. Eventually it failed and I took it back to the dealership. They had to replace the whole door latch assembly. The car barely has 40,000 miles on it.

I had the "Door Ajar Light on" problem about a month ago. The alarm kept going off every time. Even in the middle of the night. I had to start taking my keys to my bedroom before going to sleep so that when the alarm did go off, I could shut it off quickly so that it did not wake the neighbors. But that didn't work as the next day, they were asking if everything was OK cause they heard my car alarm going off. There were times where I just got in and out of the car through the passenger side door by going over the middle arm rest so that I would not have to open the drivers side door when the "Door Ajar Light" was off. I took it to the Ford shop and supposedly they fix the problem. This was a month ago.

Now a couple weeks later and the problem has returned again. I now have to take time out of my busy schedule and bring the car back to the Ford shop again to see if they really did something to fix it. This is ridiculous. I shouldn't have to get in and out of a car through the passenger door just to drive it. As well as having to carry around with my car keys in my house just because the alarm would go off at any moment. It is also not "ETHICAL" for my neighbors to be getting up in the middle of the night wondering if there is a problem or should I say "a burglar" outside their homes. They are hard working people just as I am and need their rest.

FORD, PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM..........

We have never owned a Ford before and never new about this problem of having to slam the drivers door until it goes off. We have to spray it and the extended warranty that we got does not cover the door latch which needs to be replaced to fix the the door ajar sensor. I think Ford should recall these as we have been hearing that a lot of cars are having this problem. Everyone should complain maybe they will do something!!!!!!

So annoying. Almost once a day, the car thinks that the driver's side door is open even though it is closed.

I've sprayed it with WD40, silicone spray, etc and nothing helps.

Take it into the dealership and they quote me a price of $600 to fix.

It's left the lights on in my car at night every time it does it and that's drained the battery over time.

Thanks Ford!

The door ajar light stays illuminated after closing. The door is very light so don't slam it thinking it's the resolve. Close door lightly, you will hear the proper sound when it done correctly. However if you have already been slamming it the problem is only going to get worse. I took it to the dealership in my my hometown. They didn't have a clue what the matter was. That what they said anyway. I Googled it, and an engineer states this is a poor design in the first place. He states: use an air sprayer after you move the lock mechanism then spray wd-40 in there. He even took off a mil of the little part the moves (tells when the door is ajar). Apparently it gets dirty and stuck in position. I will try this today after I get my battery charged again

The door ajar light stays on when the door is closed and I had it fixed once and paid 395.00 and is doing it again but not under warranty. the interior lights stay on for a very long time, I can't lock the doors.. with the dome lights remaining on it creates a night driving hazard.. I drive a lot at night alone and I feel it creates a real danger when I am sitting in a parking lot with the dome lights on and not being able to lock my doors.. there is no way I can drive with them on... I refuse to pay another 395 to have them fixed again... Ford should have a recall on this problem...

I have a handicapped daughter and the fact that this stops the doors from locking is a MAJOR issue. Second $340 is a lot of money that I would prefer to spend on something else. Ford is aware of the issue and should recall these cars. What would happen if Derek Jeters Edge does the same thing will Ford recall the cars then.

Update from Aug 9, 2015: the repair ending up costing $500.00. I called and file a complaint with Ford they promised to open a claim and get back to me. They asked me to call the GM and left he know I filed and that they would contact him if they could do anything. That never happened, I even talked to the GM when I made the appointment. The day of the repair I asked for the manger I was told he wasn't there he would be informed I ask for him and the results of my claim. Well guess what I dogged them on the online questionnaire and the GM called quickly that he was so good to me and I spoke poorly about his service. He told me to call corporate which I did stayed on the phone for 30 minutes turns out he LIED. Corporate and him had spoken the week before my repair and decided they couldn't do anything so I should keep my receipt encase of a recall. Yet he didn't have the BALLS to tell me in advance of spending $500.00 Monaco Ford Glastonbury. Turns out he was in the office the day of the repair. Ford has had this issue with car door for YEARS, where is the government.

Update from Dec 7, 2016: paid $500.00 out of pocket for repair, the doors wouldn't lock with this light on UNSAFE with my handicapped child.
