I reported the mileage problem the first week I had the car. First day, i drove the freeway to the airport and back getting 13.6 mpg. The dealer said I had to put on 1500 to 2000 miles to get the advertised 19 to 27 mpg on the sticker. I consider this false advertizing. So I got corporate involved. Ford had the dealer supposedly check out the car and agree to a mileage check. They had me fill the gas tank with more expensive gas (Schell), drive, record mileage and fill again. Evidently this is MY fault for using the wrong kind of gas and not putting enough miles on the car! The sticker didn't mention that I had to do this. Nor was I told this when I bought the car. The big Cover Up!
Ford closed the case the minute the dealer agreed to do a mileage check - I guess that was their solution to the problem. The dealer said I was getting 17 mpg and that's it after 1000 miles. They didn't even send me a copy of the actual paperwork. I now have 2000 + miles on it and still at 14 to 16 mpg.
Lemon law does not work on gas mileage. and obviously Ford is not going to stand behind their work. So maybe Ford should not be allowed to do false advertising unless they know for sure that their car will absolutely produce what they say it will. There is no fix. I have to pay the price so the big corporation can sell more cars and get bigger.
I'm officially a senior and just went on retirement income. My husband is an invalid and i needed a bigger car for him to get in and out and for wheel chair and walkers. I would have loved a hybrid, but they were either too small or way too expensive for our budget. One of the main reasons I went with Ford and the more expensive model was their claim to best gas mileage and an advertised lower lease payment. I lost on both accounts!
I think my car was either made in China or on a Friday night after TGIF! My first car was a brand new 65 Ford Mustang that got better mileage than this car. Since then we've done Hondas and Toyotas. I really wanted to Go American!, but was very wrong and very disappointed. Fortunately this is a lease car so i only have to deal with it for three years or maybe I can sell the lease. Too bad I love the comfort and all the extras - its loaded! For sure I will never buy another Ford.
