Edge Limited 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 138,000 miles

Owned this 2011 Edge Limited for about a year. Have only opened the Vista roof 2-3 times including last night. While attempting to close it, it only moved about one foot and there was a pop, then no further movement either direction.

The passenger side slide/guide appears to have broken from the glass as I can see it moving forward and backward in the track. No idea what happened to the driver's side slide/guide, don't see or hear any evidence of it while the motor attempts to open or close.

Have read up on the many experiences of others and to spend $2-3,000 to fix a rarely used option that probably cost at least that much originally seems ridiculous to me. Have always owned Ford products. Whatever happened to "Quality is Job 1"?

While the Vista roof may or may not be a "safety" item, a malfunction of this item can certainly ruin a vehicle considering the size of the roof opening and add rain, snow, etc. If this expensive option won't operate reliably, it should be discontinued.

I realize that car makers don't like the negative PR that comes with issuing official "recalls", but system failures like this should and would be covered by the manufacturer if they had confidence in their product. I have friends with Toyota's and Honda's and I never hear about them having to deal with ridiculous issues such as these. Maybe it's time for me to look to Japan for my cars. What a shame to even say that!

non closing sunroof

Bought the vehicle because of the awesome huge sunroof...In northern Alberta, when it's summer...you want to take it all in while you can! It would bind about 4 inches from being closed and you have to put ALL of your strength in pulling it closed while you hold the button. First attempt at KOCH FORD to have it fixed, the guy tells me he greased the rails, and said any further problems are a maintenance issue, not covered under warranty. It has been the last time I stepped foot in that place. I have owned many cars much older with sunroofs that have lasted much much longer with no problems. All dealership personnel seem to under go some sort of ASSHOLE training or some other form of "how to piss people off" course.
