Brake pedal goes almost to floor. It has a little engagement at the top pedal then becomes spongy then stopping power at the bottom of pedal. Also there is a "thump" sound when you first press the pedal. When you let off rmr pedal there is a whistle. The booster was replaced during an extended warranty several years ago.

Brakes were working totally fine for 1 hr. drive to city. A few hours later, I returned to my car to drive home. When I put my foot on the brake pedal while it was in park (but engine started, ) everything felt normal. When I put it into reverse to back out of the spot, my foot went all the way to the floor. This "soft pedal" occurred with NO warning lights/sounds/etc. There was NO warning that my brakes would give out on me at all. Luckily, mine happened, (both occasions), in parking lots, not in higher speed situations. Any higher speed situation could have been catastrophic. It was frightening. Fortunately, I was a nearly vacant lot, so I tried backing up to see what would happen and the brake again had to go ALL THE WAY to the floor and made a grinding sound (like stopping on gravel sort of). It did not stop as usual. It rolled to a stop after traveling a few feet. (Mind you, this is only rolling back from a parked position.) I got on You Tube and typed in "2012 Ford Edge, brake to the floor" there were hundreds of folks complaining about this issue. It is related to the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit, although my ABS never illuminated. You Tube had "quick temporary fix". Go in reverse upto 20-25 MPH and slam on the brakes "grenade stopping". Took 7 times (frightening given I didn't know if the brakes would engage at all), my brake pedal popped back up from the floorboard and it felt like a hard pedal again. It worked fine for one day. The same problem reoccurred the next day. Same reverse/grenade stop procedure and it got me to the dealership. Apparently this gets the valve to go back to closed position after air got in HCU from open valve. My Ford Service Advisor acknowledged how common the repair was and were surprised the Edges weren't included in the 19S54 Recall with other models. Repair cost me $1,435. They also found the Master Cylinder needed some repair-more money. I will try to get the actual part removed from my car back for inspection

Brakes peddle soft, fluid full, intermittent times where putting on the brake and felt they weren-??t working (scary). Pads, rotors fine. Taking in to dealer and anticipate they will replace brake booster, master brake cylinder and still the brake issue remains not fixed. Reading posts on internet and many owners having same issue where dealer can-??t seemed to be able to determine problem.

On 3 separate occasions over the few years we've owned this vehicle we have experienced an almost complete loss of breaking power just traveling straight on a city road or parking lot. The breaks will suddenly become very soft and only begin to work with the pedal mashed all the way to the floor. We have narrowly avoided an accident each time because we were at very low speeds but can only imagine what would happen if we had been traveling at freeway speeds. After doing some research online it appears it has been an issue for many Ford owners since 2012 but they have ignored the safety concerns.

I had my brake booster replaced about a year ago. About 4 months ago my brake pedal was going to the floor. Took it to the Ford dealer but the brakes were ok again. They said they could diagnose the problem. 2 weeks ago same problem pedal going the floor, now spongy pedal. Had a new brake hose put on and the brakes bled and it is still spongy. Trouble stopping very dangerous!!

My vehicle has 98000 miles on it and Ford has stated it needs a ABS control unit that's a cost of $2000. My brakes are awful. I paid for a brake booster & master cylinder I didn't need. My latch went and that cost a lot of money left front door now my back up camera doesn't work. What's next"?"

Brakes routinely will go all the way to the floor and makes stopping car difficult. Took car to Ford who only said they couldn't duplicate the brake issue after keeping my vehicle for 2 weeks. This has been going on for over 2 years. Ford replaced brake booster in 2014 on a recall. Brakes worked fine for a few years and went back to not fully stopping the vehicle. Doesn't do it all the time but happens frequently. If I pump the brakes enough at a stop light they will work for a while with no issues. I can't drive the vehicle frequently because of the danger it poses if the brakes should not work.

Brake pedal goes to the floor and brakes are almost entirely disengaged. This happened intermittently at first but now seems permanent, rendering vehicle unsafe for use. This problem nearly resulted in an accident. Was taken to a local mechanic and master cylinder was replaced, this did not fix the problem. Brake fluid is good and cause of the problem is unknown. Car is currently parked as we do not know how to proceed safely. This problem occurs when the vehicle is moving at any speed or direction.

This is the 2nd time since purchasing this 2012 Ford Edge that I have experienced loss of brakes. The 1st time the brake booster needed replaced. I am now dealing with the same problem 3 or so years later. This happened last night on my way to school which almost resulted in an accident. I'm now missing 2 days of school in order to find someone capable of fixing this. This obviously is a safety issue and not understanding why there is no recall on this component. This near accident occurred on a city street, however my route home was also on the highway

First the master cylinder went, then the brake booster and now the hydrolic control unit. Eachpart more expensive thenthe last and the last being $2119.20 to repair. The entire braking system, parts I was told should not break. I have been told, by a reputable mechanic that often when replacing the brake booster, the lines are improperly bled andair gets into the hydraulic system. Upon farther research on line into the issue, there are page after page of the same complaint.

While attempting to come to a stop or slow at highway speed or in a parking lot the brake pedal looses pressure and goes all the way to the floor without effectively slowing or stopping the vehicle. I have been very close to smashing other drivers due to the brake malfunction. I took my car to the local mechanic and he said he has a Ford car that had the same problem and it was recalled.

Brake booster recall symptoms described in publicized notices, including on this website, are what I am currently experiencing on my Ford Edge. Car takes longer to stop and braking system feels soft. Additionally, the advancetrac warning system light illuminates on occasion when car is in park for 10-20 minutes without moving, with engine running. Per the Ford forum, this is a common problem that does not seem to have a solution from Ford. I have lost confidence the Ford is interested or able to remedy either of these issues. I am afraid to drive it now that braking issue started today.

Bought this car Oct 2019. Tonight, Aug 2020, after driving in an intense thunderstorm on the highway doing 70mph, brake pedal suddenly travelled all the way to the floor. Only the last 1/4" (estimated) of travel actually applied any braking effort at all. I thought maybe someone had cut a brake line or something...but once I pulled over and turned the car off I checked fluids, etc. (all normal). After restarting the engine, brakes were working properly. Very scary and very dangerous!!! when can I expect this to happen again"!" I really wish I didnt have to drive this thing every night...

This is an update on a previous complaint, #11339451. An independent auto repair shop in el paso, tx replaced the master cylinder which did not correct the problem. They reinstalled the original master cylinder and both manually bled the lines and then used a computer assisted brake bleeder which correct the problem. Their total charge was $100 compared to the estimate from a Ford dealer which was $2,176.12. The estimate from the Ford dealer was to remove and replace the master cylinder and the ABS hsu module. Neither part was needed, just bleeding the lines.

While driving at about 15 mph in a parking lot and having gone over a speed bump, I heard a clunk and immediately had a super soft brake pedal. The brakes still stop the car, but with difficulty. The local Ford dealer in el paso, tx diagnosed the problems as a defective master cylinder and faulty ABS hcu module. The estimated cost of repairs is $2,176.12. Current mileage is 73,070.

This is the second time that the brakes have failed on my 2012 Ford Edge. The symptoms are identical, so I expect the problem to be in the brake booster. The brakes worked properly until the failure. Suddenly the brake pedal went down to the floor but the brakes were not applied. Both occurrences were in June, but 4 years apart. The first occurrence was at 31,500 km and the second at 85,400 km. The booster failure is a very serious problem and should warrant a recall.

Sudden brake failure. Brake pedal goes down to the floorboard but brakes are not engaged. Up to that point the brakes were fine. There was no gradual softening of the pedal to warn about a problem. One minute the brakes were fine. The next moment they failed. Luckily the car was moving slowly and the manual emergency/parking had to be used to stop the car the problem is a failure of the brake booster - which had to be replaced.
