Throttle body assembly failed. The 2012 Ford Edge uses the exact same defective throttle body assembly as used in the escape and Fusion which were both included in the extended warranty program. Ford should include all models that used this part in its extended warranty program or better yet issue a recall. In my opinion it's dangerous pulling out into highway traffic only to lose power. Many other dangerous scenarios could be expected.

6/24/16 took car to dealer for check engine light. Repair $329. Indicated purge valve stuck open at times. 6/30/16 check engine light again. Indicated under boost....replaced waste gate vacuum sensor. $307. Returned to dealer again for check engine light due to hose clamp loose. Began experiencing door ajar light and interior lights that don't turn off. Returned to dealer on 8/15/16 and were told the turbo assembly needs to be replaced for $2500+. could lose power and cause further engine damage if driven. Tried contacting Ford via email with no response. There are clearly safety issues and recall should be issued and repairs at Ford expense. Tired of reading of these same Ford issues but selective state and model repair.

I was taking my 91 year old father to the doctor when I lost all power driving down the road. The engine was still running but was not reacting when I pressed the accelerator. Fortunately I was able to steer to the side. Turned the car off, restarted and all seemed to do well. Took to the shop. Was told it was the throttle body sensor. I had the exact same thing happen with my Ford Fusion. It is extremely dangerous to lose all power driving in traffic. I was very fortunate no injuries occurred but furious to learn that this is an ongoing problem that is not covered under warranties. Very expensive lesson the first time. Will be even more expensive this time.

Three times in two week experienced sudden loss of power all in motion. Third time I was on the freeway ramp. Coasted/limped to hard shoulder. As twice before the wrench icon appeared on panel along with '"AWD off". turned off engine, waited a minute, and restarted engine. Everything now fine and got home. Took to Ford dealer. (Ford of escondido) they cannot replicate the problem. Told everything checked out ok. Could find no error reports under diagnostics. Told to pick up car. Left car at dealer! this sudden loss of power is a huge safety concern. If I had experienced this on the freeway instead of the ramp, I could have rear ended at 65mph!

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the engine lost power. The vehicle was merged into a parking lot. The next day, the vehicle was restarted and driven to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the throttle body and motor assembly were defective. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.

As I pulled into the parking deck at my office (going less than 10 mph), I suddenly had little ability to steer, nothing happened when I pressed the gas and the "low oil" light came on. I was able to coast to a stop and just barely steer clear of nearby vehicles. Restarted the car and was able to back into a parking spot. Drove it to the dealer where they spent the entire day trying to replicate the issue to no avail. I had noticed what I would describe as vibrations in the steering wheel prior to the incident (it's an approximately 25 minute drive from my house to the office in stop/go traffic with the last several miles on a busy interstate with my office just off the exit) but at the time I chalked it up to the construction on the highway and varying levels of asphalt. From my personal research online, most people who have this issue continue to have it at both low and high rates of speed and those who have had a remedy were only able to do so if the dealer could get their hands on the vehicle to read the code immediately before the car was restarted. It seems that the error code is disappearing when the car is restarted which could explain why the dealer could find no code on my vehicle.

Gas throttle quit working. Car would not accelerate. Everything else worked. Engine would nor rev when accelerator pressed. See manual light appeared with a wrench symbol on dash. Coasted into parking lot and put car in park and restarted. Everything went back to normal. The next morning, the car did the exact same thing. Took the car to Ford dealer and nothing shows up on computer scan and they couldn't replicate they said it sounded like the throttle body, but couldn't confirm. I know Ford just recalled several cars this year for exact same symptoms and are replacing the throttle bodies. The internet is full of complaints of this same problem I am having on other Edge models.

I was driving 65 down the road and there was a thump, the car lost all speed control and cost to the Edge of the road. The motor continued to run but made a sputtering sound while running. The display showed a yellow wrench and the display said to press ok. I had control of everything except for acceleration that I was aware of. I turned the car off and back on and it drove normally. I carried the car to the Ford dealership and it took a week for this to happen to them. It came up as a throttle body fault and that is what has to be replaced. I google these symptoms on the intranet and these same issues popped up all over the place. This is a factory defect and I am glad I wasn't in busy traffic and didn't get hit by a transfer truck!!

When attempting to accelerate after turning onto a state highway, the vehicle would not accelerate. It took 1-2 minutes to accelerate to 30 mph and the vehicle would not reach speeds above 30 mph. This was extremely dangerous as I was in traffic going 60-70 mph. The dealership replaced the high pressure fuel pump and the problem was repaired until the condition reappeared in August of 2014. The conditions were similar circumstances as the first failure. As I was pulling into traffic, the vehicle would not accelerate and took several minutes to get to 30-35 mph. The vehicle would not reach speeds above 30-35 mph and several cars had to swerve into the other lanes to avoid my vehicle. I took the vehicle to the dealership and once again the high pressure fuel pump had failed. With this being the second failure of the same part in a 30 month period of time creating a very dangerous driving situation, I felt I should report the incident.

This has recurred 3 times in the last 3 weeks. The last time it happened, I was backing out of my driveway and the car started jerking, wouldn't accelerate and the wrench light came on. I turned the vehicle off, waited a couple of seconds, restarted it and it worked great. The time before I was going about 55 mph and the car did the same thing. I pulled over to the side of the road, turned it off and restarted and it worked great. I'm afraid to travel in the vehicle. The Ford dealership said it's the electronic throttle body and will cost $400+/- to fix.

Driver: 83 year old woman... new auto: Ford Edge 2012, no injuries, vehicle damage approx $2000 no property damage..... problem: Lady stepped on accelerator rather than brake.... reason: The brake pedal at rest is higher than the accelerator pedal at rest. The driver is used to an older (Chrysler 2009) vehicle which there was not an appreciable difference in pedal height, stepped on the accelerator pedal, thinking she was stepping on the brake.... resolution: Discussing the incident, the woman was seated in the Ford Edge and asked to see if she felt a difference in height of the brake vs accelerator pedals. She did, and has since practiced going between pedals, lifting her foot to access the brake, rather than merely sliding her foot to the left........ it is this writers opinion that many of the unexplained accidents where a person, especially when an elderly person is driving, has mistook the accelerator for the brake is due to the height of pedal difference................. it might be wise to make aware this problem to manufacturers and the public......... thanks
