Edge

  • 126,000 miles
On Wednesday, January 9, 2019, my 2013 Ford Edge reported an "overheated coolant" message and within 2 seconds the engine light appeared, the car immediately lost the ability to accelerate and began decelerating while driving at 45 mph on a busy road during night time rush hour traffic. This endangered my safety and the safety of other motorists that had to quickly avoid hitting my car. I had the car towed to apple Ford dealership in columbia md and the technician informed me the internal water pump had failed that directly impacted the car performance issues and the grinding noise. To fix the water pump, he stated it would take 17 labor hours to repair it due to how Ford designed the water pump behind the engine. Also, this repair is causing engine problems. Bottom line here is that this flawed designed is a safety issue and Ford should recall the Ford Edge to fix this water pump problem before someone is seriously injured or dies.

Our 2013 Ford Edge has had this problem three times in a month, twice on flat roads, once on an incline/bridge. You are driving along the car is moving, then all of a sudden you lose all power and the engine shuts off. You can't put the car in neutral and restart, you have to pull over, put the car in park, then the car will start again. This is extremely dangerous, as the car is difficult to control with no power anything...especially when it happens on a major highway while going 65 mph, with a narrow shoulder on a bridge, with children in the car (like it did today). There are no diagnostic codes so there isn't much to go on, you just have to start guessing at the solution. It is obvious this is a huge problem, this board is filled with this problem. Yet Ford or the nthsa isn't doing anything about it" does someone have to die before action is taken"

On 6 occasions now my 2013 Ford Edge while driving has thrown up a check engine sign and the car will just pretty much die while in heavy traffic to the point that I am barely moving. Then second time it happened I took it to Ford they said it was the battery so I bought a new battery and still since then it continues to do it all of these way before my warranty was up but Ford could never find anything wrong with it on the other occurrences. On 8/18/2018 the car threw up a wrench sign again while driving and the car pretty much shut down I barely made it off the side of the road before being hit by another car. All occurrences have been on the interstate had it not been for luck I don't know how I kept from being hit due to the car pretty much would only roll because pressing on the gas did not good. Once to safety and pulled over to restart the car it would start and be okay then several weeks sometimes months it would do it again. Last occurrence was 8.18/2019

Why driving 40 mph the car engine light flashed on oil pressure low. The engine shut off and the steering locked up making it in possible to get the car off the road. This is extremely dangerous. I had just driven on 4 hwys to get home 50 minutes. What if this happens why someone is on the highway.

While driving down the road the vehicle will exhibit a full loss of power. After pulling to the side of the road and turning the vehicle off and trying to restart it will experience a long and hard start. The vehicle will do this weather you are driving 5mph or 70 mph. This is very dangerous and has almost caused me to be in several accidents with my 3 children in the car.

Unexpected loss of power and wrench and parking shift messages shown on my SUV display. On 03312018 my Ford Edge sport AWD 2013 surprised me when an unexpected loss of power happen during an slow motion in a secondary road. Unable to manage my vehicle I stop at the nearest gas station using the slope backwards in neutro shift until reach the gas station behind me. Then when stop I began to read vehicle book and shut down the vehicle as recommended. After 30 mins I restart the vehicle and the loss power disappear reason why I decide to return back to my home. When I enter to the consumer report page from my pc at home to request info for any recall for this vehicle I find out that a recall number exist for this type of SUV. The recall number is 14S10 since august2014 but I never has been advised. Few month ago I went to the dealer for a review of a problem but they did nothing and said that the vehicle was in perfect condition avoiding their responsibility to tell me about any recall for this problem. I still experimenting the same situation since 03312018, risking my life and the life of other people in the road as my SUV continues without losing power but taken the pertinent precaution. I still very worry as the consumer report stated that in addition this failure may cause the vehicle to roll away if the parking brake is not applied despite the transmission being placed in park.

On several occasions vehicle fails to start. When attempting to start engine it will turn over but not fire. Turning switch off then attempting to start engine again usually results in the engine starting. When this happens it does not matter if the engine is hot or cold, brand of gas used or length of time or miles driven. This has occurred several times over the last 6 months. Vehicle has been taken to dealership service department twice. They have been unable to duplicate the problem.
