This problem has been confirmed to exist in both a 2011 and a 2014 Ford Edge. With a passenger weighting 72-75 lbs in the front passenger seat, the air bag turns on and off depending on how the passenger is sitting on the seat. This same passenger has traveled almost 50,000 miles in a 2011 mustang which has a similar sensor system and has never had the air bag turn on. We are able to reproduce this problem at will. This information suggests a problem in the Ford Edge with the software that monitors the front passenger seat sensors and determines when to turn on the front passenger air bag. This was reported to Ford on 07/22 and we checked on it on 09/23 and there was no update, indicating that they have not taken any action on this.

I was driving down I-25 with my spouse doing apprx. 75mph when my sunroof exploded. We are fortunate no one was injured. Glass did fall on my head as I was taking it to the dealership. Ford refuses to cover it under warranty even though the dealership states it exploded from the inside. Ford does not know what caused the problem but just states it is not covered under warranty. If the covering was opened someone would have been seriously injured. This is a huge safety concern and has happened to several vehicles but Ford refuses to do a recall. It is going to take someone getting seriously injured before Ford recognizes the problem as a manufacturer defect.
