Buyer beware on Ford... right around the 5 year mark (you know, just as the warranty expires) it is one thing after the other that starts to go wrong! In the 13,000km after I hit the 100,000 warranty period, I’ve had the following repairs:

- Trunk latch faulty and wouldn’t open (even manually)

- Battery died (not an issue) but after it was replaced there was electrical failure and power drawing from several components which caused the new battery to die within 4 days. This was extensive diagnostics required to isolate the electrical draws. I got a “deal” on the repairs at $1500. Apparently known problem.

- Oil Pan leaking - $700 repair because of the labour to get at the oil pan gasket. Another known problem with the Edge.

- Bearing on CV shaft failing causing a squeaking/whirling when I turn. $750 repair. Crazy.

Ford Dealer of course doesn’t care now that warranty period is up. I took a gamble buying a Ford after having very reliable cars prior with Subaru, Acura, Toyota... and sadly disappointed in the longevity. I thought it was good value with all the features when buying the car and thought Ford had come a long way, but very disappointed and dreading what will go wrong next.
