This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Ford dealer.
Just bought the car after leasing it and loved it until the cylinder misfire as a result of leaking coolant into the engine requiring a whole new engine. Covered under warranty but could happen again because of a design flaw and "warranty" on new engine is just a year. Ford won't extend longer warranty or fix original issue. Looking for extended coverage now. Planned on keeping the car a long time so I have extended payments and thus upside-down. Car was also in the shop for 7 weeks.

We took the car to the dealer because a service code light kept coming on and were informed that the 2.0L engine was known for an internal cylinder crack and it would have to be replaced. For all the notifications you get with any car, we never saw or heard anything about this problem until it had already happened. Since the car had been paid for already and everything else on it worked perfectly, it still cost less than replacing the car so we paid for a new motor. Since learning how prevalent this problem actually is in the smaller EcoBoost engines, it does seem that Ford should either eat at least some of the cost. We were fortunate to have the money on hand to pay for it but most younger people still raising a family would not be in the same situation. No car that's only 8 years old and less that 100,000 miles should need a new motor being used under normal conditions.
