I received a Customer satisfaction letter from Ford in March of 2019 regarding Adaptive Steering Fault.

I called Ford Customer Support and was told that this repair could not be made until the Adaptive Steering Fault message came on.

I asked what happens if the light comes on after the program has expired in March 2020. I was told that I would have to pay for the repair.

The light came on May 19, 2020.

I called Ford Customer Support and was told a different story this time. I was told that this part should have been repaired regardless if the light came on or not and that the dealership should have notified me of the needed repair. Ford states that I was on a list provided to the dealership in March of 2019.

I contacted the dealership and was told I was not on a list for this repair.

I called Ford Customer Support again and expressed my concern as I can't drive the vehicle with the steering wheel the way it is.

They opened a case number and told me to take the car to my dealership. They would pay for the repair, minus the diagnostic fee since I was never notified and my car had such low mileage.

I received a call from the dealership on May 28, 2020 letting me know that Ford wasn't going to pay the full amount for the repair and I was responsible for the balance of $442.00.

I am trying to reach Ford to find out why they aren't paying for the full cost of the repair.

I do not think I should have to pay a dime for this repair since Ford Corporate and the dealership dropped the ball in contacting me and not giving me the correct information.

I am paying for it just so I can get my car back and it will be safe to drive.

Update from Aug 18, 2020: I wrote a letter to Ford Corporation in June.

I received a reply stating they had received my letter and someone would be contracting me.

It is now August and I have not heard back from anyone.

Just sad the way good customers are treated after the vehicle is purchased.

September 2018 my 2016 Ford Edge displayed a warning light, ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED. The steering wheel turned to the left at 9 o'clock while the wheels were pointed straight ahead. The car was driveable but I didn't trust the steering. The warning light went out the next time I started the car, the next day. I scheduled a time to bring the car into the dealer a week later. The tech claimed he couldn't find any problems with the steering or error codes in the vehicle's onboard diagnostics. Since I bought it to the dealer this problem has occurred 3 more times at about 5 week intervals. Today I brought it to another dealer. The second dealership informed me that they recommended replacing the SECM, basically the entire steering wheel at a coast of $1729 to me. The service manager told me the problem is not covered by the warranty. Has anyone else experienced this problem and had is successfully repaired? If so, was it cover by the warranty or did you have to pay out of pocket?

Adaptive steering fault fixed about a year ago - with a simple software upload. This time dealer informed me the whole steering wheel has to be replaced and that is what Ford says the fix is for it this time. Scheduled for tomorrow. Philpott Ford in Nederland, TX says it will take only and hour to install. Will update when done.

Update from Nov 3, 2018: new steering wheel installed. Less than an hour to install. No adaptive fault has appeared again - a week after the new steering wheel installed.

The adaptive steering fault light came on as soon as I drove into the dealer for another issue, but of course they tell me they didn't see it and it doesn't register a code. This is not the first time. It's come on several other times but I don't have the exact dates and I get the same thing from the dealer. They can't duplicate the problem and they can't help me.

Of course 700 miles from home on a 10 day trip. Light came on, called my dealer who said to take to the nearest Ford Dealer which turned out to be Gurley in South Bend, Indiana. Service advisor, Mike Campbell was very courteous and helpful because we still had to drive to a 6:00 pm wedding in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and get thru Chicago traffic. Car was put on computer and we were told that we would need a new steering wheel assembly. Of course that part will not be available until July. Told to decide our next step but vehicle should be driveable. Light went out but side warning screens no longer appeared. This delay caused us to hit Chicago at the worst time and we were stuck in traffic and missed the wedding (ridiculous after spending 2 nights on the road and expenses). I had the car serviced several days before leaving to prevent any problems. This is the 2nd major issue with this vehicle which stickered at $ 48,000+ - you should be able to expect more. Driving home on Tuesday with 2 more overnights planned, I hope we make it safely!!
