The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that the vehicle started after pressing the Push to Start button several times and depressing the accelerator pedal simultaneously. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal rattling sound while driving. The contact stated that the rattling sound became louder when the vehicle was idling. The contact also stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure could be related to Customer Satisfaction Campaign: 22N12; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that 50% of the cost for the repair would be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Vehicle engine runs extremely rough and shakes the vehicle after starting the engine. White exhaust smoke is also observed and coolant levels are steadily dropping over time. A pungent unpleasant odor is present near the exhaust as well. Vehicle has been experiencing this issue since June 2022 and has progressively gotten worse. The check engine light was illuminated so a OBD-II code reader was utilized on July 2, 2022. The diagnostic codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0316, P1026, and P1285 were found. I have reason to believe that it is related to the issues related to the technical service bulletin (TSB) 22-2229. I am concerned about safety regarding this issue. My immediate concern falls on the poisonous gases produced when the engine is burning coolant putting the driver and others near the vehicle at risk. In addition, the vehicle is unreliable and the issue may cause other parts of the engine to fail. I believe this is a Ford design flaw and they should be held responsible. A certified Ford dealership in Colorado will be running diagnostic tests after it has been dropped off for an appointment scheduled on 7/10/2023 at 8:45am MST.

bought a 2017 ford edge 3 months later (2.0 engine) my car starts to overheat, white smoke. I Have it taken in to be looked at to get a bill for 8500 if i want it fixed. The car was also not safteyed. Ford has known issues with this just trying to bring awarness so many people having to go without a car for trusting ford and they are not fixing this issue with there 2.0 eco engines

Under acceleration the vehicle will sometimes enter into limp mode. Vehicle will violently brake and come to a halt and the driver can only accelerate up to +/-5MPH to be able to pull off to the side of the road. The deceleration when this happens is sudden and violent. During this event the steering wheel is difficult to turn. ALL dash warning and fault lights flash during the malfunction. You have to pull over, shut the vehicle off, and then restart. This has happened with our two kids in the vehicle while merging onto a freeway. I have brought it to Ford 4 times. The first time they said a harness was loose and they fixed it. Other times they blamed my use of a narrower diameter winter tire, but it happens with the stock wheels as well. The malfunction continues to happen. They have not been able to duplicate the issue, so they asked me to drive around with a OBD2 scanner attached. When the malfunction happens, no error codes are reported. The Ford technician said that if it were their vehicle, they would not drive it with their children in the car. Ford has had the vehicle for almost a month now and have requested we pick it up because they cannot duplicate the malfunction and have suggested that I drive until it happens again, which is pointless as the malfunction does not trigger an error code. My wife refuses to drive the car, especially with our children in it. I have talked to Ford corporate, and they said they would escalate, but now they are not returning my emails or answering their phones. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. It may be helpful to know that when I first started bringing the vehicle in for this malfunction, it was still 100% under warranty. Thank you.

Vehicle had the transmission flywheel (flexplate) crack and fail on 07/24/2020 which resulted in having the flywheel replaced at 86,191 miles for the cost of $1,588.73. This resulted in a dangerous situation as it happened at night, on the highway in the mountains of GA. Vehicle again had the flywheel (flexplate) crack on 05/08/2023 at 128,515 miles and is being quoted $2,804.67 for replacement and repair. On August 26, 2022 a Customer Satisfaction Program 22N12 was issued by Ford for this problem. I never received a copy of this letter. Ford admits this is a problem, and my vehicle was included in this program and confirmed by VIN. The program covers 100% repairs up to 100,000 miles and 50% between 100,000-120,000 miles. My vehicle as over the 120,000 miles and I was told there would be no coverage for the repairs. My complaint is the fact I have paid for the first repairs, and had to pay for a hotel, meals and costs due to being stranded in GA as I was on a trip when it happened and the repairs took 4 days. The vehicle again has the same problem, and this time the quote is considerable higher, so much so it is not cost effective have it done. Ford needs to acknowledge the fact they have a problem at pay for the current repairs.

Got diagnosed with needing rear differential work $5k right after extended warranty was up, I proudly maintain my car well and in timely fashion. The vehicle is now unable to turn and reverse without sounding like something is breaking; this is two months after diagnosis. Spoke with ford quick lane rep who stated a lot of the Ford vehicle-??s differential have been going up. Such a expensive important mechanical power train issues shouldn-??t be a issue so soon in the life of a vehicle; this appear it needs to be a recall or something done for the thousands of people that have this issue.

A check engine light came on in our 2017 Ford Edge 2.0L engine and the engine would shake when turning the car on. After taking it to the dealership, the car had two codes that came up: 0316 and 0302. After inspecting the car further, the diagnosis was that it was a blown head gasket. The car has 34,000 miles, and this issue should not happen this early. After some research, we learned that Ford Edge with our 2.0L engine, years 2016-2018, keep having this engine issue. Our understanding is this is a known issue due to the block design and the head gasket seal not being sized large enough. This problem was reproduced by the dealership and the recommendation is to replace the entire engine with a new 2.0L produced after 2018 when Ford redesigned the engine addressing the problem. The online community is complaining of having to deal with very high repair costs of this issue (needing to replace the whole engine), but Ford has not addressed it with the many owners or issued a recall.

My engine has coolant intrusion, which makes the car more at risk for engine failure or can start on fire and the only way to fix is a whole new engine replacement. This vehicle only has 56,800 miles and ford isn-??t willing to replace engine because it-??s met its 5 year warranty period but has not meet the 60,000 warranty period. I use this vehicle to travel with my family and just thinking it could start on fire any time do to an engineer flaw is ridiculous. This vehicle poses safety concerns for many families and I hope you guys hold the manufacturer responsible for these issues.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V427000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 88,317.

Due to faulting welding in the torque converter, the transmission failed and the car would shudder and disengage while driving. This problem was associated with a separate recall for the identical year, make and model vehicle where the torque converter failed and Ford Edge's from July 2017 to March 2018 were recalled: https://www.motorsafety.org/ford-recalls-vehicles-with-defective-torque-converters/ This vehicle was purchased in March 2017, so the recall should apply to earlier vehicles as this is a clear and present danger. A serious accident could result from the torque converter failing while the car is driving. Additionally, Ford refused to compensate me for my out of pocket repair costs. I strongly urge the NHTSA to expand the recall and reduce a serious hazard to owners of earlier models.

On 08/17/22 I took my car into Bill Collins because there was a loss of coolant, and my SUV was acting up. It was jerking randomly. At the time the SUV was noted to have 63,860 miles. Dealership fixed recalls on vehicle and did a pressure test and said there was a water pump leak. Replaced water pump and gasket. Check engine light remained on and when asked dealership about it they said in order to get the check engine light off it would have to go to another part of the dealership, and we would be charged another $99 diagnostic fee. On 11/21/22 SUV was taken back to Bill Collins because it was still doing the same thing. This time you could also hear water moving/draining from behind the dash and the check engine light was still on. Dealership fixed another recall showing on vehicle and said that the water pump had air pocket. Sent home but sputtering engine was not fixed. 12/08/22 contacted dealership again to let them know that nothing they have done over the past several months has worked and SUV is still acting up. Was told they would have a higher up mechanic look at vehicle to see what the issue was. Dealership contacted us two days later stating that vehicle needs a new motor. Current mileage 67,883. Dealership stated they verified coolant intrusion into cylinder and that it is necessary to replace the long block. Exact verbiage from dealership employee. (Coolant intrusion into cylinder #2. Verified defective engine block. Coolant leaking internally.) My SUV has been in and out of Bill Collins Ford for the past 4 months and no one could figure out the problem. Yet, when we spoke to Bill Collins about the new motor, we were told at that time that this is a known issue. Yet, no one mentioned it for 4 months and I've been driving my vehicle in this condition? I work for Ford and have supported Ford for the past 7 years. I am wanting to understand how Ford is going to make this right.

My Ford Edge SE Flex plate broke while on the highway I was rapidly slowing down and could not get over cause of cars passing me on the right and left causing the vehicle behind me to almost rear ending me. I had it towed to the Ford dealership and he has confirmed it is the flex plate that broke. There was a rattling sound approximately a week prior to it breaking I had an appointment with the dealership the same day it broke and got towed in.

Own a 2017 Ford Edge 2.0L Ecoboost engine with 68,000 miles. Check engine light came on so took it to a local mechanic who replaced the spark plugs, coils, evap sensors, and cam shaft position sensor. The code was stating a misfire in the #2 cylinder. Less than a week later the light came back on and got an engine overheating warning. Added coolant and then had to add more coolant a few days later with no evidence of a coolant leak. When starting the vehicle or accelerate from a stop would notice a liquid swooshing sound. Also when starting the vehicle it would tremble and run ruff for a minute or two. There would be a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe with a bad oder that would eventually dissipate after diving a few miles. Finally drove the car to work and when I went to leave afterwards the vehicle would not start. Would crank but would never turn over. Had the car towed to a Ford dealer that diagnosed coolant leaking into the number 2 cylinder. They told me the only fix was to replace the engine. They gave me Fords number and told me to call and complain since I only had 68,000 miles on it. They gave me a copy of Fords response which states, -??As a subsequent with no recent new vehicle or paid repair history, the customer generates a 0% share recommendation, meaning they do not meet the CLV requirements for the FLP assistance. Ford Motor Company is unable provide financial assistance in this case-??. Called Ford and was told that there was nothing they could do since I was 8,000 miles over warranty and refused to offer any discounts or assistance. Asked to speak to the warranty department that made the decision not to cover and was informed there was no extension for that department so I can not speak to anyone that made the decision not to cover any of the costs. Was quoted from the dealer the cost for the repairs will be $7,710.81 plus taxes. This is a major safety issue as the defect can cause the engine to overheat and start on fire.

We currently have a 2017 Ford Edge with an Ecoboost 2.0 engine at our local Ford dealership. It began running poorly and the check engine light came on. Shortly after, it worsened with a whistling noise and more obvious cylinder misfiring. The codes for the engine light were P0303 and P0316, and was diagnosed with coolant in the cylinder. Per the service department at the dealership, this falls under Technical Service Bulletin 19-2346, with the only repair being complete engine replacement. At the time of this submission, it has been at the dealership for 12 weeks. We currently have no ETA on backordered parts to complete the repair, and will owe $4,300 for the repair when completed (originally over $11,000 quote). I would also like to reference Ford's Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) #21N12. This CSP offers free repair to many Ecoboost 1.5L engines that have had the identical diagnosis. The associated TSB for this is 22-2134, which aside from different sized engines, is identical to the TSB associated with our vehicle.
