I just purchased my 2017 Ford Edge in February. I am currently financing this vehicle. At the end of August my check engine light came on. I had it checked out, it read a cylinder 2 misfire, but before I could take it in to the shop not even a week later to have this fixed the car started to overheat and smoke really bad. The next day when I went to take it to the mechanic the vehicle would not start. I had to pay to tow it to my mechanic, only to be told that the engine locked up and the entire engine needs replaced. There is no way I should have to replace an engine on a 2017. I have researched this and there are MULTIPLE complaints about this same exact issue where the coolant is leaking into the cylinders and blowing the engine. Ford has failed to issue a recall and it is costing people thousands of dollars. I am stuck financing a vehicle that I cannot drive nor afford to fix. Ford needs to address this issue.

I am the second owner of this vehicle. This edge was a leased car with around 30,000 miles on it in 2020.

The engine light was on in June, and I noticed that the coolant was low. It took 2 months to schedule an appointment with a local Ford dealership for a diagnostic.

They diagnosed the following: - Got code P0303 P0316. Ran oasis, found TSB 22-2229 states possible coolant intrusion in cylinder. - Ran engine to normal operating temp and pressurize cooling system for 5 hours. - Pressure drops 10 PSI. Removed spark plugs and borescope inspected, found coolant in #3 cylinder. - Rec long block as per TSB. - Reference to service bulletin #22-2229 Issue: Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/Escape/ Vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke and/or a runs rough condition with or without an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). ..... - Recommendation of the repair estimate $6930.64 plus tax. Estimate includes parts & labor.

Unfortunately, I am a few months or few thousands miles out of the powertrain warranty. With the tax and a month of rental car, the total cost of replacing this lower engine block failure would be close to $9000. I haven't decided if I should get it fixed yet. The car has a noticeable variation when starting. However, it is running okay, beside the coolant tank is at lower level. I am not sure how long would the new long block would last, or if there is an improvement made to the long block design to prevent the same issue. This is probably my LAST Ford.

Purchased the 2017 Edge new from the dealer in 2017.

In July, the check engine light came on, 2 months out of warranty. After troubleshooting, plugs and wires were replaced. Light came back on the next day. Swapped plugs and wires to troubleshoot. Light came back on next day. Borescope revealed coolant in the #2 cylinder. Ford says it's not uncommon for that year model/engine and to replace it. Approximately $6500...

Car is undriveable due to overheating.

Good news: Bought an extended warranty when I purchased the car which will cover the engine replacement.

Bad news: I'm already out $1000 for car rental as I need a vehicle to transport a relative to doctor appointments, dialysis, etc and the extended warranty does not cover it.

As of this date 7/26/22 engine has arrived but install package is delayed and no delivery date is available.

Don't buy a 2015-2021 Edge with the 2.0...

The check engine light has been on and off for at least a year. I had the car checked repeatedly and eventually had the spark plugs and a starter core pack? Replaced.

The Ford dealer informed me that there was a coolant leak onto the third cylinder and that the only way to repair it was to replace the engine at a cost of $5800.00. No other option was offered. The car will often not start or hesitate to start. The engine runs very hot (warning light) and I have to constantly add water to the coolant overflow. If I hear gurgling with the addition of water, it seems to calm down and the engine light goes away. That only lasts for a short while and we are back to rough idling and skipping, if it starts up at all.

I have been stranded and had to borrow a car for work. Ford needs to issue a recall and FIX this engine. The car was purchased used in 2019 and I have barely put 40K miles on it in 3 1/2 years. I am disgusted with this car and the Ford dealership told me that no one would give me the value out of this car so I can just basically suck up the repair costs and keep it moving!!!

I brought the car to the dealership for a Check engine and vibrations in the car at the acceleration. The check engine seems to have disappeared when the dealership looked at it. They alternated the spark plugs to verify if it could come from here.

Had to bring back the car yesterday because of a high temperature message. The engine was overheating. Realized that there were no more coolant in the tank. After a 5 hours testing, the dealership realized that there is a coolant leak caused by a crack in the second cylinder.

The engine will need to be changed, and the dealership can't tell me when it will be done as they are understaffed and already have engine replacements to do. They said it would take between 2-3 weeks to get the job done, although this kind of work takes one week according to them.

Because my extended warranty hasn't been recorded properly by the dealership where I bought the car, (which is a different one from where I brought the car), I don't have access to a replacement car, and I have to wait for the Ford Canada team to handle it. It will take up to 72 hours so I can count minimum 5-6 days without a replacement car because of an error made by the dealership.

Overall feeling is that I should not have bought a Ford and that this vehicle came with a hidden defect.

Just would like to say I am waiting to have my engine replaced due to a crack in the block after only 30500 miles... It is not scheduled yet, they are waiting for the parts to come in. They topped off the engine coolant and said nothing about not driving it. They said they would not give me a loaner vehicle or pay for a rental so I will be without a vehicle for the 2 to 3 days they said it would take for the work to be done. I'm not even sure how I'm going to get to and from the dealership while my car is there even though they said this was covered under the drive train warranty. Like I said, a real pain in the ass.

Check engine light came on so took my car in to be inspected and find out that there is coolant leaking into cylinder 3. Turns out Ford has a TSB out for this issue (#19-2346) which seems to be fairly common and the technicians said it's due to the poor engine design. However, Ford will not cover the cost to fix their faulty product and quoted me $9,500 to replace the engine... on a 2017 vehicle with only 65,000 miles. This really should have been recall or at lease notified owners of the issue.

Been dealing with their customer service for nearly a month, from 5/5/20 and it is now 6/2/20. Their defense is that it's outside of warranty (by only 5,000 miles) and the defective engine is not their problem anymore. Not to mention their customer service stringing me along for almost a month continuously saying they're looking to see what they can do but then comes back week after week saying its out of warranty. Between my father and I we've had 14 Ford vehicles, three of which we currently own, and they still won't take care of their loyal customers.

Left the dealership after just having the "Works" (oil change, inspection, tire rotation) done on my car along with the brake line recall repair and the engine started to run rough within two or three days after. Started to get engine code for P0302 second cylinder misfire. Called dealership and brought car in and they could not get code to come up after having car for two days. They said as long as the car is running fine, keep driving it.

A few days later I called back and said check engine is back on and had to drop off again. They switched around a few wires to see if they could identify a plug or coil issue. Error code did not change after a few days. Dropped off again. They kept for a couple days, finally got error code and called late in the day to say they needed car for 5 hours to run a pressure test and there was a possibility I would need a new engine depending on the test. I brought car home and drove my other vehicles for a few days to think on it. This dealer already had a Ford F250 and a Ford Fiesta in the shop waiting on new engines. Went to another local dealer for a second opinion.

Well, after their day with my car, they said that I would need a new engine. There was a crack in a gasket that caused a coolant leak into the second cylinder. Really do not know why you can't replace gasket, plugs and coils to repair engine instead of a complete engine replacement. Only good thing about the new engine is a computer update and 2 yr warranty on all parts and labor (no out of pocket) after installation. but at $7,800 plus tax it should come with lifetime free car detailing and oil changes.
