This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Ford dealer.
Leased a 2018 Ford Edge for my step-daughter who is anal about taking vehicle in for service, either regular scheduled maintenance or unscheduled maintenance. While driving the last couple weeks she noted a check engine light, she brought the vehicle into our local Ford dealer and was told that she needed to replace the spark plugs. She paid to have the work done, the next day on her way to work, the check engine light came on again. The Ford dealer was closed for the 4th of July, she took the vehicle across the street to an independent repair facility with a great reputation and was told she would need to replace her spark plugs, which again she paid for and left with her intention to reach out to Ford dealer once they re-opened. The following day, the check engine light came on again, she returned to the Ford dealer and was advised that either the vehicle engine block is cracked or the head gaskets is bad, either way there is a Ford maintenance bulletin out that states the proper repair is for a completed engine replacement.
Ford is obviously aware of this engine issue but has done nothing to correct the problem with owners. Since the vehicle is out of warranty, Ford will not offer assistance. the dealers "great advise: was to hold on to our RO invoices in case there is a recall. Meanwhile I have a lease vehicle with nine months left on the contract that is in need of a $8,500.00 repair.
I find it ridiculous that a 3 year old vehicle with less than 100,000 miles needs a new engine. This is my 5th new Ford vehicle in 9 years. I am eligible to access Ford "X" and "Z" plan, never again, Ford lost me as a brand customer. My next truck will be a Chevrolet.

2018 Ford Escape with less than 80,000 miles. Blown head gasket on cylinder #3. Mechanic says he sees these all the time. Ford is producing what he calls a service engine to replace the defective one. Why produce a service engine if there isnt a real issue?? Ford needs to own this issue and recall this engine.
