I was driving on the freeway yesterday - going with traffic at around 75mph when my 2019 Edge ST just shut off. I lost power steering but even though the dash went black - the touch screen stayed lit. There was absolutely no indication there was an issue, wasn't skipping, no warning lights on the dash, just shut off.
I can't emphasize enough how scary this was, I was in the left lane traveling with a line of other vehicles, with three kids in the car with me. I tried to quickly pull to the left side (couldn't get over to the right) but there wasn't really a shoulder, only about a cars width of space then a wire cabled barrier. I managed to get over but the pavement ended so the drivers side of the vehicle was on gravel while the other half was up on pavement - while trying not to bounce off the barrier - all with no power steering.
As other vehicles sped by it shook our car and terrified my kids. After a few moments I was able to restart my vehicle and we were able to get home.
I absolutely cannot believe how many people have reported this happening to them with their Edge. I have lost trust in mine and likely will not keep it even if the dealership is able to find the problem and fix it. My first Edge in 2011 was a perfect vehicle, I loved it. I then went to a new 2016 Explorer and had significant issues - 3 years old and it even started rusting through in places! Went back to an Edge in 2019 and I'm afraid this is the end of my loyalty to Ford.

I was traveling down BG parkway and got off on 65 to take my daughter to movies. We got up the ramp and at the light my car died with no warning. I started it back up, went up 2 more lights and it died again. Finally made it to the movies but we left early due to worrying my car was gonna break down as I was unsure of what was wrong. I drove 2 miles got back on BG Parkway as the dash flashed red and stated low engine coolant. I pulled over immediately and sat for about an hour while car cooled off. When it was safe I removed the radiator cap to add antifreeze, and after refilling I put cap back on and shut the hood. I got in my car and started it, walked to back to put rest of antifreeze in hatch, and noticed white smoke coming from both exhaust pipes. I immediately cut my car back off and called for a tow. 3 hours later the tow truck showed up and took it to Ford Dealership in Bardstown @ 11pm.
After a couple days the dealership called to let me know it would be following week before they could look at it. I called the dealership to let them know that someone was gonna pick it up and they stated they had looked at it and it needed a motor. I had a friend go up there to pick it up and he went inside and asked if they had ever looked at it and they stated the motor needed to be replaced, and that they had 3 other Ford Edges there for the same issue, then my friend hauled it as I needed my vehicle to go another mechanic. After looking it over he noticed that the antifreeze had been leaking into my engine block. When I logged into my Ford Pass app, it states that I had it brought in for electrical reasons (that's what they put on the report not the engine problem).
