Generally the problem is mostly just annoying. If I did not need the 'check engine' light off to get my SMOG, I would let it be. That being said, the radio turns off when the car is put in Drive/ Reverse and sometimes on braking. The problem normally stops after awhile. The general voltage of the vehicle is compromised also. Dim headlights that get dimmer after turning on anything that requires power. Fortunately, the 'Check Engine' light came on shortly after this problem began. After having a friend do a diagnostic, this code was received: "P1633 - Keep Alive Power Voltage Too Low" The way I hear it, is the only way to remedy the problem is replace/ reprogram the PCM (computer). Ford conveniently made the PCM difficult to reprogram. I am told only one of their certified mechanics can have it done. I have yet to find out how much this will cost. I am currently doing yoga in preparation for the major ass rap I am about to receive.

My 2002 escape has a electrical problem that the ford techs can't find. They think it could be the PCM but they're not sure. The problem is as follows, the radio will come on on its own with the key not even in the ignition or it will go off if you put your foot on the brakes or the radio will go off if the car is in gear and then the radio may come on when you put your foot on the brakes. It never seems to have a problem when the car is in park or in neutral. I know it's crazy. But when all this is happening it drains the battery and then the car won't start. Right now the radio will not turn off when you take the key out of the ignition but so you have to turn the radio off with the on/off on the radio but the illuminating lights stay on, and i know the radio lights shouldn't drain the battery but it does and nothing else is on. The cars charging system and battery have been tested several times and found to be perfect. Ford wants to just start replacing parts until the problem is fixed and they want to start with the most expensive parts and don't even know if it's the right part. The PCM shows no fault codes. Outside of this giant pain in the ass problem the car is great. I guess if money is no object ford may be able to fix the problem, that's only a guess.
