Escape 4WD 6-cyl

I bought the vehicle used. I am concerned with all of the updates that I have seen on the safety issue of the vehicle simply shutting down in the middle of driving. The problem I am dealing with is the 4WD is stuck in 4WD. The 4WD light isn't on, but when I turn sharply, I can feel the wheels grabbing for traction. It is at the dealership now (only had 2 weeks) and they have not identified the problem.
