Sudden loss of lubrication followed by equally sudden engine failure. Knocks like three sledgehammers in a washing machine. Seems to be contagious because our 2005 Escape had same thing happen 2 weeks later, and it only has 60K on it.

I bought my 2002 Ford Escape in Nov of 2007. Not even five months after having the car, the engine caught fire on the expressway. The piston went through the block of the engine which made the engine catch fire. Of course, Ford would not stand behind there car and I ended up dumping over 5500.00 into the car to get it running. It needed a new alternator, engine, and other stuff. One year and two months after having the car fixed, my brand new alternator went out in my car again. It will cost me over 600.00 to fix the alternator. The place that put it in will not stand behind there work so my car has been sitting in the garage for over a month now. I refuse to put anymore money in this hunk of junk. Not to mention that I think my transmission will be going out soon because it sticks when in reverse and then jumps in to allow me to back up, no power or pick up and it hesitates when your driving and you can feel it shift into the next gear when trying to pick up speed. I will never by or set foot into a ford dealership again. If anyone else has had problems with there ford escape doesn't matter what year contact me and tell me your story. Together we all might get ford to do something about this.

It's really disappointing to have to go through this with this car; I've been to Fords service center 2 to 3 times a year for recalls, and now this! I hate this Mexican built car! I had an Escort that was better than this! Heck even my Chevy Cavalier was better! I may buy Forgien thanks to the poor quality of Mexican! LOL! How do you buy American built anything anyways! I want to support our country, why is this car Mexican? Nice job Ford!

Bought the 2002 Escape new, first new car I bought on my own. A few years ago, check engine light came on, took to my mechanic. He changed all the sensors except for the one at the gas tank. Well, this year we had to have the engine rebuilt and catalytic converter replaced. Thought the problem was solved. Well, put 170 miles on the new rebuilt engine and check engine light came on again. The car has 109,000 on it. Can anyone help me or did anyone else have this problem?
