I just got this vehicle 5 days ago, went into nursing home to get my grandparents as they needed to get out and see other people besides old people and we came out to a pile of glass and no rear window. Nursing home had video surveillance so I got to see the whole rear window explode on film....

It's bad enough that my back window shattered back in Dec.of 09. Now the passenger window in the back? and my dog was in the car. If it would have been a child, what kind of permenant damage would it have caused? And how may more window will shatter before Ford claims some responsibility for it? Are they waiting for a personal injury or death suit?

I was amazed when I googled "exploding read windshields Ford Escape" and found this site with so many reports of Escape rear windows exploding for no apparent reason. Mine blew yesterday on the way to work. It was a frightening experience at 70 mph on the highway in -9 F temps. Plus--the inconvenience was significant in that I started a new job 2 weeks ago, had to miss an important meeting on my new boss' 1st day back from a leave, and had to spend 3 1/2 hours (of 16 allocated for time off use in the 1st 5 months of the new job) waiting to get it fixed. I find it interesting that a few folks noted they had turned off their rear defogger a few minutes prior to the explosion. I turned mine off about 5 minutes before it exploded. Sounds like a design flaw to me!

after dropping my daughter off at the babysitters, i drove to work at 7am. within 2 hours someone came in to tell me that my back window was shattered. We went out to look at the car and found no obvious reasons that it broke. There were no signs that somebody did it on purpose and it was in a public area. I then drove to the nearest ford dealership and had them look at it and he saw no other damage or any reason why it broke. It was an average day with average elements. not really cold or really hot. there was nothing laying against the back window or anything applying pressure to the window. Luckily i have full glass coverage but it really was an inconvenience and of course it was a rainy day.

My car was parked in my driveway all day. Temperature was in 70's. And the window just exploded all over the place! I am glad no one was nearby. I don't have the money to fix this, I am so angry right now!!!!
