I have a 2006 Ford Escape. The gas pedal is sticking all the time. It's not a sticking because it is stuck or needs lubed. It is a hard mechanical lock! no matter what you do you can not press down on the gas pedal. It's locked! you have to wait until it unlocks to do anything. This has been going on for a very long time. The other day it locked up on me as I was pulling out in traffic and was almost in an accident. It wouldn't move. I had to pull over on the side of the road and sit there until it decided to work again. My husband drives around with cruise control on so he doesn't get put in a position like this one even in town! someone is going to get killed- the driver and passengers of a car like this! Ford recalled the same problem for 2004 and 2005 models but will not acknowledge the 2006 models. I shouldn't have to pay out money for a failure they are aware of. Someone shouldn't be killed for this to be looked into and taken serious. If I could I would get another car but I would lose a lot of money doing that. Ford needs to fix this and a recall needs to be demanded. If you search the internet people are complaining about this all over the place. Not everyone knows the steps of action to take to be heard. We need the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to step up and protect our drivers and our roads. This is really serious! there is no way of knowing when the car decides to do this. When you take it in and it doesn't do it, they say there is no problem. Please help us!

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape. The accelerator pedal was stuck in the up position and would not move downward unless the engine was warm. If the temperature was cold the accelerator pedal would not loosen up enough to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who cleaned a spring in the accelerator pedal and informed her to warm the vehicle before driving. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was not notified. VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 70,000.

I am buying a 2006 Ford Escape. The gas pedal is locking up when trying to accelerate from a stop. This seems to be happening when the vehicle is first driven in the morning or after it has sit for awhile then driving again. This has become an everyday occurrence. I have had the incident of the gas pedal sticking causing the vehicle to accelerate on its own while trying to stop.

I have a 2006 Ford Escape that has the gas pedal sticking all the time and it's going to kill my family or someone else's if we can't figure out what is wrong. I see that Ford recalled the same problem for 2004 and 2005 models but will not acknowledge the 2006 models. It started when I bought it sometime in 2006 and is still have problems.

Gas pedal locks up while driving on freeway. When I let up pressure on the gas pedal to let a car merge in and then try to resume speed, the gas pedal locks and won't go down.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape. While driving 45 mph, the contact felt the vehicle accelerate on its own. She removed her foot from the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle continued to accelerate. She made sure that the cruise control was deactivated by pressing the off button. The contact had to stand on the brake pedal in order to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The contact inspected the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who suggested that the format could be stuck. They found that this was not the cause of failure. The vehicle was restarted and the engine began to rev. The dealer shut off the engine and replaced the throttle, however, they were unable to diagnose the cause of failure. The contact is aware of the recall for the Ford Escape in 2005 for the same failure. The current mileage is 16,300 and failure mileage was 16,197. The consumer stated strongly urges a recall for this specific vehicle. The consumer further stated had 3 passengers in the vehicle and this was an extremely dangerous incident. Updated 08/29/07
