I knew I needed to have my brakes and rotors done so I took them in to get fixed at meineke. After they were finished they took it for the normal test drive to make sure everything was working correctly. They noticed that the anti-lock brakes came on but the light wasn't coming on. They told me to take it to Ford because they cant handle ABS. I took it to Ford and they told me that my front left tone ring was cracked. I paid almost $350 for a $10 piece to be put on. I drove it for about 3 days and it started to happen again. I have not taken it back because I cant afford to pay $100 just for them to look at it to tell me its the same thing again. Some thing needs to be done about this.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 40 mph the contact heard a loud noise while depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that it became difficult to engage the brakes and control the steering wheel. The ABS light also illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact drove the vehicle to the dealer where the technicians stated the exciter ring needed to be replaced. The technicians were unable to determine how the failure occurred. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.

I have a 2007 Ford Escape. I took it to the car was and my ABS lights and 4WD lights came on. I looked online and found several complaints of tone rings (ABS rings) being cracked. Sure enough my front left tone ring is cracked. I believe it happen on the conveyor at the car was. Still this is a common problem, even Ford dealers (two of them) agree. Why isn't this a recall? Ford is fixing it for $300.

I have a 2007 Ford Escape with 33,000 miles. Both ABS tone rings on the front axle have cracked and are affecting the ABS system. I called Ford and asked if this was a covered warranty claim. Ford gave me a run around. When I google this problem, I located numerous pages of complaints about the same problem (cracked tone rings). This appears to be a safety issue and NHTSA needs to investigate why there are so many failures of this ABS part.

2007 Ford Escape 4WD front ABS system failure. The tone ring on my Escape broke on my vehicle causing it to fail. My braking system didn't work. I looked up the problem and found it to be very common, a tone ring failure. I feared for my safety as well as my wife's. we drive this car a long way to work. There are so many repairs to this 'problem' that I believe it warrants an investigation. I refuse to drive the car until the problem is fixed as I now have no brake system.

I started my car in the morning, and drove up my street as I normally do on dry, clear pavement, hitting no bumps or potholes. As I got to the stop sign and pressed my brake pedal, the ABS light came on and my 4WD light began flashing. The brakes made a grinding sound, and the brakes locked up. I now know this as the ABS system activating. This has been happening for 2 days now, every time I hit the brakes in my Ford Escape. I have been told that it is a cracked tone ring by my local Ford dealer and that it is a minimum of $400 to fix. I do not have that kind of money. I have been looking online about this problem and I am amazed at how many other people have the same issue! and with low mileage and through no fault of their own. I am at 52,000 on my 2007 Ford Escape (with this being 90% highway miles) this is a serious safety issue and I am appalled that there has not been a recall on this yet!!!! please help us in allowing a recall for all the people who have been effected by this. I am a single mother and I have no idea how im going to afford to have this fixed. : ( thank you for any help you may be able to provide to me and my boys!
