I have the same problem with my ignition as many other people. It started out that I could push really hard and get the car started. Took it to repair shop, they installed a new ignition. Then 3 months later, problem reoccurred- only worse. Sometimes it won't start no matter what I do. I sit and wait and try again until it starts. Called Ford dealer repair shop they said they have had similar problem with another car. Problem most likely in steering column. Cost to fix-somewhere around $300.00.

Very frustrating, want a vehicle that is dependable.It seems to me with so many other people having problems- it is a Ford issue and should be on the recall list.

My husband & I are Ford people. Love Fords, but we bought a 2008 Ford Escape brand new and we have had multiple problems with it. Some have been recalls & some have not been, but have been costly fixes. My ignition switch went out completely and left me stranded. It had been very hard to start for a few months having to push key in hard and jiggle it to get it to start. Well it won't start at all now & just clicks. Not the battery or anything else. It's the ignition switch.

Mechanic said dealer only to replace cause of electronic keys. Dealer said it would be $500 to $600 to replace. Not cool cause it doesn't have that many miles on it yet. So I am stranded until I save up the money to fix it. From what I have seen on this website, others are having the same problem. Ford needs to recall these & fix them at their cost. My husband did jump my car & it started (once), but not any more. Aggravated because I am a very busy person & I can't use my car. I'm not sure if it is under warranty or not, don't think it is anymore.

Had much difficultly in starting the vehicle. Had to push in the key further, in and out several times, until finally it didn't work at all. Tried an hour later then it would work just once. Finally it just quit. Before it died, took it to a locksmith to change the electronic ignition switch, said they couldn't do it (LIAR). When it finally died, towed it to a mechanic. They looked it over and decided that the electronic ignition switch needed replaced. They contacted the exact same locksmith that I took it to, and had them replace it. Took a day to replace it, with another day or two for shipping, and cost about $450. Over 3 years later it still works like a champ. It works great now that the inferior Ford part has been removed.

This is not an end all do all problem, but, it is a major pain in the ass. When I brought this issue to my local ford dealer "Thoroughbred Ford" in Platte City, MO to see if there had been a reported problem with this condition, they indicated that they had no reports of this in their computer system and that it must be a rare occurrence. They assured me that they had a repair part available and could get the vehicle repaired ASAP. 20 minutes later, part is not available, it's just been sold and I'll have to wait till tomorrow to get repairs done. For a rare occurrence seems to be pretty popular part. My Son, also has a 2008 Escape, and in the last month has had to replace the ignition switch module also. How many others have had to do this to their 2008 Ford Escapes?
