My daughter was driving across country from Virginia to California and back through Texas on highways and back roads. She stopped for gas in Texas and when she began driving again she was unable to control the steering, power steering was out. She had to drive back to Virginia with no power steering which caused a safety issue. Upon returning to Virginia the vehicle was taken to wynne Ford which determined an electric power steering fault and the steering column and the lock module needed to be replaced. We discovered there is a safety recall for this issue. Safety recall 14S05- electric power steering. We were then told her vehicle would not be covered under this recall because only vehicles from the Kansas plant would be covered. This is the exact same problem just a different plant and should be covered under the recall.

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. While the vehicle was idling, the steering wheel began to turn back and forth independently without warning. The vehicle was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 14V284000 (power steering); however, the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The recall repair remedy was performed at westlie motor company (located on 500 S broadway St, minot, nd, 58701). Due to the contact being out of town during the failure, the contact took the vehicle to the local dealer (havre Ford located at 1991 2nd ave, havre, mt, 59501) where it was diagnosed that the steering column had begun to fail. The contact was able to drive the vehicle back home. The contact notified the local dealer, westlie motor company, once she returned and was informed that it was not likely the same part that failed and, even if it was, it would be an out of pocket expense. The vehicle was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fees. The contact had an independent mechanic diagnose the vehicle for a second opinion and was informed that the steering torque sensor failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no active recalls and advised the contact to take it up with her local dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

While on a shopping trip, I parked the car.....15 minutes later I started it and proceeded to back out of the space and could hardly steer....felt like I had 4 flat tires....the only warning was a steering wheel that shook while I was at stops, not while driving....no red lights, no other symptoms. Out of the blue the power steering stopped....one week after being serviced and checked out.

I was driving my vehicle when all of sudden my power steering completely went out on me causing my driver side front ball joint to bust along with I dont know what else & almost wreck my vehicle. Good thing I was near a parking lot that I could get my vehicle into enough to get my vehicle off the main road so I was not hit & involved in an accident. I bought vehicle used in April of 2016 & do not know what was done N what was not. My power steering went out abt a month ago & it has been sitting undrivable since then. A friend that is a mechanic finally was able to take a look at my vehicle & after just taking a look at the vehicle to see what was going on, he came to the conclusion without even knowing of any recall & advised that is what the issue wrong with my vehicle. He advised I need check into this to have Ford take care of the issue free of charge. I ran the VIN # to check recalls on my vehicle but came up no recalls however my vehicle falls in the year of the recalls. Researched online & there are several recalls. How do I go about this & getting all the recalls taken care of for mine & my passengers safety, if my VIN # is showing as no recall but the recall issue has happened to my vehicle? I need to take care of this ssap, as this is/was my only & main source of transportaion.

My daughters Escape experienced a power steering failure while driving her blind 9 year old daughter to school, she was 8 1/2 months pregnant at time. Now your site tells me the VIN [xxx] is an invalid number. How can this be? when that number is googled it pulls up numerous complaints (including at least one NHTSA complaint). Please explain how this vehicle can have been sold in 5 different states minimum with no action by you or Ford. In 2016 November my gas pedal stuck to the floor and I freaked out and ran into my neighbors garage and I had 10 fired fighters and sherriff look at my turned off Escape and the accelerated pedel was completely sitting on the floor of the vehicle and it also was towed to Ford and said the accelerator pedal link was completely broke and it was not covered under insurance for they said this is a manufacture issue and not insurance and so I had to use the front end damage to pay for the $1500 repair on a part that should not have broke, Ford has now over 100 complaints to this say problem and no fix.....this vehicle accelerated and rammed a neighbors garage door and I could have been killed and all the sheriff and firefighters say they have never seen an accelerator pedal depressed to the floor and I was lucky....Ford fix this....this is going to kill someone and it I had injuries from the whiplash.

There is a recall on this vehicle and when taken to a dealer in December of 2016 we were told that the steering sensor that was recalled was not reporting an error code and thus was not replaced. This month the power steering failed and we were told by another dealership that the recalled part had failed but because we had already taken the vehicle in for the recall, and even though the part had not been replaced we were not eligible for the replacement and it is costing us around $600 for the repair. I called Ford directly and was told that even though it was recalled we were not eligible since we had already taken it in. I believe it is unacceptable for Ford to not replace this recalled part. Just because we wanted to be careful and safe and took the vehicle in right away we are being penalized now that the part has failed. The steering failure is a huge safety issue and I find it incredible that Ford responded in this manner. We are getting the part replaced at our cost at pearson Ford in aberdeen, sd and I believe we should be reimbursed for this repair and Ford should change this dangerous policy before someone gets hurt.

My complaint is regarding Ford safety recall # 14S05. Loss of power steering due to torque sensor failure. Ford issued recall in July 2014. My vehicle was inspected in August 2014. Software was updated and torque sensor was found to be functioning and was not replaced. The recall pertained to loss of power. The vehicle would default to manual steering. I purchased my 2008 Ford Escape in Oct 2014 and was not aware of the recall. Ford says the recall was complete. I disagree and am filing this complaint.

We got suckered by Ford recall in 2014 when they sent out the letter and updated the software to fix the power steering issue. Which Ford [xxx] well knew would not fix the faulty torque sensor. So here we are March 17 2017. My girl friend, our little girl and me. On our way back to my parents house, a 4 hour drive. After traveling down I80 for 3 hours we exited onto a two lane highway. Not too long down this rural Iowa highway out steps a small doe. (female deer) I make a quick direction change and aplly the breaks quickly. The exact moment the power steering went out. Luckily for us I was driving and not my ol lady. As im almost certain she wouldn't have been able to get the vehicle corrected and kept on the road. This is ludacris that Ford has not been made to remedy this problem. They [xxx] well knew it was an issue with this faulty sensor when they came up with the scam recall in 2014. How could they be allowed to continue to let families drive with these ticking time bombs. How many childern need to die before something is done parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Power steering went out. I was told by a dealer there was a recall. I brought it to dealer and they said the car did not qualify for the recall. After hours of phone calls to Ford, they said the recall had been done in 2014, prior to me owning it. The part is near impossible to find and the cost is quite pricey. I was led to believe this is a lifetime warranty. This is not safe to drive without power steering. Ford should stand by their recalls. Part #905-524 total cost: $565
