I'm not the only one with this Ignition switch issue, having to push the key thru the damn steering column while turning the switch to the start position. I bought the vehicle in Oct 2013 with 118K miles on it (currently 143K+) and it seemed to be fine at that time but it has gradually worn my patience thin. I watched a guy on you tube repair an 08 Escape by replacing the Starter Switch. So yesterday I went to O, O, O, O'Reilly,,, Auto Parts and purchased one. It is a BWD CS804 Switch / Commutator Interrupter. I was in the process of changing it out when it got too cold on me so I just slapped the Neg. (-) cable back on the battery and lit out. The switch was $56.80 tax incl. I'll let ya know if that works or not.
Update from Jan 23, 2016: The BWD CS804 Switch has fixed the problem. It took less than 1/2 hour to change out. There are 3 small bolts that hold the trim on from underneath the steering column so just remove those and wiggle the plastic parts free. There are 3 pieces , one on the bottom and 2 at the top. The top 2 are adjoined by a rubber strap, it's easy as pie. There are 2 places you have to use something flat to push in the connector tabs to remove the switch (Look At The New One) and you will have to wiggle it out of there, it will come out and it goes back in the same way, you gotta wiggle it. I recommend lubricating the Ignition Switch (key hole) Not The BWD CS804 and about before replacing the trim around the steering wheel. I used WD-40 & Lithium Grease. The first time I turned it to the start position it tried to hang but I was there to stop it. The tumblers and mechanism were in dire need of lubrication but she's smooth as a baby's bottom now. It's fixed now yet I'v caught myself pushing and straining like the old way so I pinch myself and say, Self, No Need Stop That. I had my doubts at first that this would fix it but I was already there. The Actual Ignition Lock seems a bit worn with the BWD Starter Switch removed, glad it's over for as long as it lasts, Git-R-Did! Deo Vindice
