The passenger rear panel paint is bubbling and has rust under the bubbled paint. This is a defect noticed on all the Ford Escapes that I see in parking lots and pre owned vehicle lots. This is a factory defect that I and a lot of other Escape owners feel the manufacturer should take responsibility for and recall the issue so we can get our vehicles fixed. The cost to do it is not covered under my insurance. The safety of others is if you have small kids that are near the vehicle can get rust in their mouth if they touch the area that the bubbled paint has fallen off. The child could touch the bubble, the paint comes off the vehicle and they put it in their mouth. The chips of paint if they try to swallow them could cut their throat trying to swallow the paint chip. The bubble was noticed after owning the vehicle for a year. When I asked at a dealership they mentioned that this is a flaw with the Escapes and nothing can be done about it other than taking it to a body shop and have them remove the rust and paint the quarter panel. That is very expensive.

The rear glass hatch hinges have completely disintegrated and my rear window is ready to fall off. Ford has basically told me to suck it up and pay for the repair. This has been a clear issue on Ford SUVS dating back to at least 2002. The vehicle is only 5 years old. I am being forced to pay $260 for parts and then whatever labor might be when my window is ready to come crashing out.

The entire interior of the car where any metal is exposed is completely rusted out. All the exposed metal components including the tracks for the front seats, the undersides of the seats, the bolts holding the seats in place, and any pieces of metal on the interior of the car that are exposed are completely rusted out. The car was taken into the dealer and I was told that Ford does know about this "problem" and it is because all of the metal on the inside of the car is untreated metal and this will rust. I was further told that this is a "cosmetic" problem and because the car is still functioning then they are not responsible for fixing the problem. The interior of the car looks like an old, neglected car instead of a two year old pristine low mileage car that it is. Ford refuses to fix this problem until the mechanisms completely rust out and fall apart.

Letter from congressman brown on behalf of constituent regarding problems with her 2009 Ford Escape; she has an arbitration date on June 28 in columbus, Ohio; please respond directly to the cleveland office the consumer stated the vehicle has been to the dealer on five occasions because the vehicle would jump/lunge while engaging it into drive or reverse. Within the last year, the vehicle began to lung/jump while driving down the highway. The vehicle has also been to the dealer six times for a rear leaking window. The weather striping was replaced, but the leak continued. Recently, when the consumer filled the gas tank, it only registered a half tank. Also, there was a vibration coming from the vehicle while driving 25 mph.
