Ford has acknowledged this issue and issued a letter concerning this but I do not recall receiving one. My daughter has suffered a loss of power or limp home condition a couple of times I was not aware of the cause which would have saved me trips to my mechanic. electric throttle body issue as previously reported

Since I bought my Ford Escape brand new, I have had regular oil changes and have taken care of my car.
It started to drive a little rough so I had the spark plugs changed, I had it tested and cylinder 1 shows that is where the problem is. So a mechanic said that the coil on cylinder 1 was cracked and I had him replace it, well, it's driving rougher than before. So now I've taken it to the dealer and had them look at cylinder 1 at $165.00, and they said nothings wrong with cylinder1 but they could put me in a new engine $3000.00 just for the engine, no, we are not talking about the labor, at that time I told them to put it back together. Of course it failed inspection already, so now I have 45 days to repair my Escape because they can't turn the engine light off because the experts at the dealers can only say put in a new engine.
A new engine, no I cannot afford a new engine and I can't afford a new car, I am still paying on this one. It looses compression power, what do you do with a situation like this???

In May, 2010 I began to experience power loss/surging of my vehicle to the point it would shut off. Driving down major highways in Newfoundland, Canada at 100kms per hour the vehicle would completely shut off. I have had this ongoing problem since then and have been awarded for Ford Canada to fix vehicle thru arbitration. The latest arbitration ruling in January 30, 1014 and Ford has not done the right thing. All thru the process Ford has replicated the shutting down of the vehicle when they have made the engine wet, but are denying that there could be electrical problems. The latest trip to the dealership I was in a rental from September 30, 2013 thru to December 19, 2013 replacement of part of the wiring harness was completed which created yet more problems to my vehicle. Just yesterday I experienced complete electrical shut down of the vehicle and am awaiting from the arbitrator to see if they are going to enforce Ford Canada to fix my problem. So far my vehicle last year spent 103 days in a Ford dealership only for them to tell me that they can't find the wiring problem. My Escape has had 17 trips to the dealership, on my 8th Power Control Module and the same problems exist. Now because Ford don't want to do the right thing my vehicle remains parked in my driveway so afraid to drive it and Ford sits back and waits for the 30 business day deadline to come and go. With reading everything on here, I guess my problem is not isolated like Ford Canada is trying to say. Electrical Engineer states that my vehicle is unsafe for myself and those around me. After all this time you think that Ford would hire some mechanics that actually know what they are doing. Any one out there that could help either in the United States or Canada, please do so, I don't know what else to do other than a costly fix and that is to take Ford Canada to court.

Turning onto the Baltimore Beltway my car would only move about 2 miles an hour. I drifted to the side shoulder and thought the car had died. After a short while I turned the ignition on and my car started. Thank God there were no injuries.

I had problems with my 09 Ford Escape V4 automatic soon after I bought it new. I took it in for not shifting into reverse right away, (and when it did it boomed) and for very jerky shifting at lower speeds. The dealer said there's nothing wrong with it, this is just the way it is. Then I started noticing when I would be traveling at about 60 miles and hr and I would go to pass and accelerate, the engine would give no extra power when I would press down on the accelerator. Then, after a slight pause, the engine would give a huge roar of rpms like it was in neutral. I also noticed this same thing when I would go from 0 to 60 on a divided highway at a stoplight. When the trans tried to shift into its highest gear it would pause and then give the surge of rpms with no power. Shortly after this I got a notice that my transmission had been recalled and I was thrilled and took it back to the dealer, thinking all the problems would be fixed. They made a few adjustments while I waited. The problems continued so I took it into another dealer, thinking they might be more competent. They found problems and said they would fix it (they never said they were replacing the whole thing) but that I'd have to wait until they got parts and a free rental vehicle because the repairs would take 3-5 days. After a month, they said they had the parts but they were waiting for their new Ford rental cars to be replaced and plated. They put me on hold for another month. I finally said fix it and I'll get my own rental car. Then I found out the whole trans was being replaced, and they said, no we don't have the parts, we can't order them until the escape is in our shop. (Then why did I have to wait the first month for parts to come in?)
They replaced the transmission at 25,000 miles and it was very much better for every day driving, but the high speed problems never went away. I've had it in twice since then, and they just say everything checks out okay and we can't get the engine to do what you're saying. I even drove the vehicle with them in it but they refuse to get on the interstate and I couldn't get the vehicle to do it with them in the car.
The miles are 31,000 now. I know there's still a problem with the trans. I had planned on keeping the escape for several years and I thought I couldn't go wrong with Ford Motor Co. Boy, was I wrong. I mistakenly thought they were the best American car company and made a good product. I should've known when they sold the escape to me without a rear cargo dome light, I noticed it 5 mos later and they wouldn't give me one. I had to buy one.

There is a customer satisfaction program extended warranty on this. BUT they won't fix it because it hasn't completely broken on it. However, in the meantime, my car loses "power" and my gas pedal stops working and I'm just coasting, looking desperately for a place to pull over. I have to then shut the car off and turn it back on so I can continue driving until the next time it happens. It is getting more frequent and is now doing to daily. I've taken it to the Ford dealership twice and they continue to say it's not pulling for that code even though there legit is basically a recall for the exact thing that is happening to my car. But because it hasn't broken completely yet, they won't fix it. So I'm either out a vehicle or I have to keep driving it until I get in an accident because I turned in front of another vehicle when my car decided to just stop. I have called the Ford recall line, they called my local dealership, created a case number and escalated it to the service manager which did absolutely nothing. Because under law, as it wasn't actually recalled, they don't HAVE to fix it until it's completely broken. I'm not sure how this is even legal.............
