It was about 108 outside, about 1:00pm, was not a DRY HEAT this day. I hopped into my car and [thought] I was on my way to work. I turned on my car, turned on AC, then take off Window shades, then noticed the AC was not working, no blowing air, no noise, not even hot blowing air! After a moment of "no way... Are you serious?! I turned off car and went inside to complain to my folks, and maybe my dad would know something. He mentioned a few things... Although, my unit had already been replaced about a year ago, this should not be happening. We went outside to look under hood. I started car, and low and behold... It was working now! Did not go to dealer as I am a very busy person, and do not have money to fix something they will just blame on me anyways. I will mention it my next visit though, as I have appt now for another issue I'm going to list.

Outside temperature hit approx. 98 degrees. I went to start the vehicle and discovered the blower was not functioning. Switched all dials and pushed all buttons - no sound and no air. Internal vehicle temperature rising as my anger and confusion levels begin to rise. Opened the sun roof and windows to let temperature cool internally. Turned off vehicle waited about 10 minutes and restarted vehicle. After restart same result. Called dealership had to bring it in next day. I made a stop for a few hours (outside temp indicated mid 80's) and discovered the blower was functioning. I still took the vehicle in for service and after verifying warranty service received a rental and was on my way. Technical diagnosis was a variable resistor that was linked to the blower motor had "melted and fused with the blower". The technician could not explain how the blower was able to work after that. Well the tech replaced the blower and variable resistor. All seemed well until outside temp again was in high 90's on this past Friday at 4:00 p.m. eastern time, and low and behold the same results "no blower for a/c or heater". I immediately called the dealership and talked to my same rep and informed him of the issue. He said come in, so I did and unfortunately talked to a separate rep who said come back on Saturday (no tech available when I arrived and no tech available on Saturday. Luckily, I remained staunched and held my temper and finally my original rep returned, issued me a loaner car (dealership vehicle-no rental fees etc.) and I turned over my vehicle. Checked on status today no issues but tech is t/s and has inquiry into Ford for assistance.
My gut feeling is the problem lies with the computer and due to the black color the computer is overheating resulting in a failure of components of the blower motor. The fuse for the blower motor is in the engine compartment whereas the blower assembly is located directly behind the glove box. I am very perplexed as I am now relegated to driving a 2005 Ford Taurus vice my 2010 Ford Escape Limited that I am paying a pretty penny for in traffic lasting up to 1.5 hours daily. I miss the luxury and comfort of the Escape!!!
Update from Jul 1, 2011: Well got my Escape back and for a week they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Parked it in the sun ran the heater for awhile numerous times no failure. They took it too Annapolis and back no failure. I am baffled as of right now the blower is functioning going to take it on a run myself and see if that stays the same. The good thing is the dealer gave me one of their cars to drive for a week vice having to go through the issues with a rental car company. (Koons Ford in my opinion at least has a great Service Advisor, Paul). Koodoos for his attention to my needs for transportation.
