Rear door latch actuator failed, buy new actuator 9l8z-784-3150b at rockauto.com. Ford makes good vehicles. Lots of things fail on all vehicles and many can be fixed inexpensively.

I purchased this vehicle, hadn't had it a month yet nor received paperwork or made a payment and the lift gate won't open and took it to the dealership and they won't pay to have it fixed and it's really pissing me off.

Rear latch suddenly failed. I can hear it clicking but it doesn't move the latch mechanism enough to actually open the gate. Researched the problem on the internet and it is about a $250.00 fix. I would normally just pay to have it fixed but I found HUNDREDS of people with the same problem. So I have written a letter to Ford and followed it up with a phone call. They promised to have a person get back to me with 48 hours. (Hasn't happened yet and it is over 2 weeks).
Found an easy fix in the meantime. I opened the hatch up and located the locking mechanism release. I attached a length of braided wire to the mechanism and ran the other end up between the metal and the plastic trim. If I need to open the latch I open the window first and just pull on the wire and the hatch pops open. Obviously, I keep the wire hanging on the inside of the vehicle!
I'm hoping that Ford will issue a recall or give an extension of the warranty for this item.

I was on a camping trip, went to unload everything and my hatch would not open. Very annoying! It still will not open and is a pain especially when grocery shop or trying load and unload all of my kid equipment for sports

The back of the vehicle, hatch I guess, is not opening on a regular basis. It seems to be an electrical problem. I will lock and unlock the vehicle sometimes it opens other times it does not. Again I believe this should be a recall.

Without warning, the rear latch has stopped working on my 2010 Ford Escape. I have a 23 year old paralyzed daughter who uses a wheelchair and this is her only form of transportation. The first notice of this happened when we were headed home from an appointment and I was unable to get her wheelchair out of the back of the vehicle. After 45 minutes of trying EVERYTHING, I FINALLY FOLDED THE SEATS DOWN, TOOK THE CHAIR APART, REMOVED IT FROM THE CAR, PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AND THEN TRANSFERRED HER INTO HER CHAIR. She has not been able to leave the house since.
Its frustrated to still owe 17k on a vehicle that does not meet our needs due to a defect in engineering. UGH!

what can I say, again when taken in to get fixed i was told the parts needed were on back order. no other way to get into the back except through the window. not an easy way to load stuff which is why i bought this suv.

The door latch just stopped disengaging all the time. It doesn't disengage about 95% of the time. We have tried cleaning and lubricating and that doesn't guarantee the latch to disengage. Any other ideas to try would be appreciated.
